CALLER: Rush, how are you? I'm really upset about the hundred dollar-price of oil, and isn't it about time we put enough pressure on Congress to approve offshore drilling and ANWR. We have so much oil, the oil could be so much less and we wouldn't have to pay at this time.
RUSH: People have been trying to put pressure on Congress to drill for oil, and Democrats are not going to go for it. The Democrats are beholden to the environmentalist wackos, it's going to take a price a little bit higher than this for that to happen.

Rush hits the nail on the head—as usual. The Democrats’ refusal to allow for our production and refining of oil is criminal. All Republican candidates need to be beating up on the RATs big time over this issue. This is a winning issue for Republicans.
This has to be the most maddening policy issue. Even the republican Congress wouldn’t permit drilling in a God forsaken wasteland at the top of the world, based on environmental concerns when there is no credible environmental risk. Just the word “environment” has stopped us cold, despite the enormous economic and nat’l security impacts.
IN the end it may be better to use the oil from the middle east first. When it’s gone... they are back to eating sand. We have plenty of oil reserves in the continental US, offshore and in Alaska. If we use them up first...were dead.

Personally I don’t want Congress drilling for oil. They are incapable of doing their job as Congress much less drilling for oil.
You can say that again.
Why aren’t we pumping oil out of the ground with our current wells?
I don’t think Rush hit the nail on the head. I heard the segment and was yelling, “Listen to the man, Rush, he’s got it right!”
We can’t wait until November, 2008. A public outpouring is needed NOW and I’m very disappointed in Rush for not picking up on it.

But Rush was agreeing with the caller. I agree. We need to be putting pressure on them. They need to be ridiculed for stubborningly putting us in the position. RATS claim we can conserve and come up with alternatives. Yea, we can do that but I know of no viable alternative to gasoline—and that includes ethanol.
I’m all for drilling our own oil.
But what I’ve been angry about lately is even when we drill our own oil, the states where the oil is tax the crap out of it to where it about defeats the purpose, in a redistribution-of-wealth kind of way. Alaska just passed a 25% tax on the oil drill there.
Maybe we need to invoke the Interstate Commerce Clause to stop this interstate theivery.
Because a lot of the current wells are running dry. Hence the need to drill new ones in other locations where there are proven reserves.

we don’t want Congress drilling - just take off the restriction so the oil companies can get at it. The only control I want to see is American oil stays in America.
Well, if you believe there is a finite amount of oil, you may be right but what if the theory that the earth replenishes oil is the correct one?
Because they are being paid not to.
That, and they are heavily invested in oil.

I’m not sure about either theory. That oil is like coal and is a fossil or are those pools of oil are produced abioticly from the earths mantle. Both theories make some sense, but, neither can be proved empirically.
If the replenishment rate is lower than our usage rate, then it doesn't matter much
