Compare the number of taser-ings (40,000 last year, from FOX ?) with shootings. 150/40,000 =.00375 or .375% isn’t that lethal, especially compared to gunshots.
The vast majority of taserings end just like the video, with a lucid but compliant suspect.
The taser is here to stay because the alternatives, like a split skull and broken bones, etc. are much worse.
“like a split skull and broken bones, etc.”
Not to argue against your point of the gun versus taser, however, the way some people fall, they could end up with a split skull. Why do you think they practice with the taser on mats?
I do not have a solution to the taser, but I do know the split skulls, broken bones can happen just based on some of the falls.
My understanding is that a lot of other non-lethal technologies are under development that will make the Taser look relatively primitive. Non-lethal weapons are here to stay, but I'm not persuaded that Tasers will still be used in twenty years or so. Something better will be available eventually.
What's that got to do with it. The taser is dangerous to many heart patents with defibrillator or a pace maker. Fooling around with this type of deadly electrocution if foolish. One death for silly minor infractions is one death too much and an officer or civilian should be prosecuted for using without determining if not deadly. That can't be done. Stupid.
