As Usual America forgets Joe E Brown. One of only 2 civilians to be awarded the Bronze star in World War 2. He did not serve in the military. However, he traveled over 200,000 miles at his own expense to entertain the troops. He was loved by servicemen and the parents of servicemen. Traveling to Alaska, China, Burma, Brazil, Iran, Iraq, Southeast Asia, Australia, North Africa and other places with just one thing in mind, raising the spirits of American and Alied servicemen. He gave show after show in any conditions and stayed around to sign autographs for everyone. It's dificult to express the accomplislments of one man in just a few paragraphs. 60 years have passed and he is unknown to most Americans but not forgotton by those that knew him.

Welcome to the Canteen, Defendingliberty, and thanks for adding Joe E Brown's name to Great Comedians of the 40s.
During World War II, he spent a great deal of time entertaining troops, spending many nights meeting personally with servicemen at the famous USO Hollywood Canteen. In 1941 Brown's son, Captain Don E. Brown, was killed when his military plane crashed near Palm Springs, California.

Joe E. Brown was a great comedian and a great American. What he did for the troops is inspiring.
Still, his funniest line was the last line in "Some Like It Hot", when Jack Lemon tells him, "You can't marry me, because I am a man!" Brown's character response, "Well, nobody's perfect!"
