Rush Limbaugh: Why No Push for Duncan Hunter? (Rush implies that Rudy and Romney are liberals)
RushLimbaugh.com ^ | 11/19/07 | Rush Limbaugh

Posted on 11/19/2007 3:37:47 PM PST by wagglebee

RUSH: Mark in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Am I reading that right? Welcome to the program. Don't have my glasses on so I couldn't really read it, but I guessed and got it right.

CALLER: Yes you got it right, dittos, long-time listener, 24/7 member, and fellow talk show host inspired by you, my friend.

RUSH: Well.

CALLER: Been at it for five years on the Internet, think I've got the biggest show on the Internet, and I've got a big question for you.

RUSH: All right, ask away.

CALLER: All right. The question is this. I think the most conservative candidate that we have for president is Duncan Hunter, going through his website, listening to what he's got on the news, his different interviews and stuff, I mean he definitely meets the conservative agenda head on. And we're just not hearing a lot from him. And we're not hearing a lot from him, from you. And I'm wondering, sir, do you have any plans in the near future for interviews with him, for talking to him on the air? I mean, I did hear, you spoke about an e-mail update you got from him the other day, but other than that it looks like the best candidate here is not getting pushed by the strongest conservative people.

RUSH: Well, here's my answer to your question. I'm asked this a lot and historically I have not gotten involved in primaries, because if I had any of these people, and they have all asked to come on this show, and I respectfully say no, because I'd have to ask them all back. And I really don't look at this program as a campaign vehicle during primaries. Among other things, I, frankly, Mark, I have the belief that political candidates have a duty to get noticed themselves. It's an unfair process in terms -- Mrs. Clinton. Mrs. Clinton is strictly there because she didn't divorce her husband. In fact, she's strictly there because she married him. If her last name weren't Clinton, she'd be the dean of some all-girls' school in Albania touring villages at night and doing whatever you do in a village at night, when you run an all-girls' school. She's just benefiting from conventional wisdom. In the case of Rudy, the reason Rudy is getting a lot of attention is the northeastern bias in the media. The northeastern bias in the media wants two northeasterners to run.

Even some of our conservative journalist friends who are headquartered and work in the northeast, in New York and Washington, are willing to overlook, in some cases, the lack of genuine conservatism in some candidates because they're from the northeast. They have a geographical bias because of where they live. People in the northeast think it's at that it's the heartbeat and the pulse of the country there, and the rest of the country is flyover country and all of that. So it's tough to get out of the bottom tier. You need a really humongous debate performance, and you need an early announcement in some cases when you're going against somebody that's going to benefit from all the conventional wisdom, the media and others. But I sit and watch until one of them surfaces because that's what their job is to do, not mine.

Thompson supporters do not tear Duncan Hunter down.

I beg to differ. I've had little time or connectability the past few months. Every chance I had to get on FR and a Hunter thread, the Fred people were trashing the thing up. In disgust I would sign off. Because of those experiences, I will never support Fred. Reputation by association and all that.

Hey Dakota! Since I’m the volunteer contact person for Duncan Hunter in SW Washington, I have been in touch on his behalf three times thus far with all the Republican PCOs on the current roster. So apparently the young lady wasn’t a PCO.

Anyway, Dakota, I have a big box of Hunter mailer cards and will be happy to share with you. The Republican office in our county is never open, or I would have delivered a good supply of campaign buttons, etc. to them long ago. Maybe you can get them to open up. :)

I wish all Hunter supporters would check with their Republican chairs to see if their precinct Republican PCO position is filler and if not, to apply to it ASAP so they can attend the caucus and be a Hunter delegate to the local convention.

Good luck. :)

Rush traditionally does NOT endorse a primary candidate, probably for the reasons you mention, and rightly so. The candidates need to ride on their OWN cojones (or ovaries) to get noticed in the primaries. These are candidates for President of the USA, for gosh sakes!

But have no fear. Rush has a LOT of influence, facts, insider knowledge, etc. for the general election. He all but promised a caller just the other day that he WOULD stop Hillary from being elected President. I believe he knows what he can and must do to stop her, and I believe that his friends or even strangers will feed his bully pulpit with whatever it needs daily for 6 months to try and stop the Clinton Machine.

I do hope he has a good security team.

I heard Hunter on John and Ken today and was very impressed at the work he is doing to get the WH to pardon Ramos and Compean before Thanksgiving and get the good men home to their families. (They were the border agents convicted and imprisoned for insanely long sentences all on the word of a NOW arrested illegal drug runner, and the US attorney had hidden the evidence that the bum was caught running drugs a few more times after the fateful crossing.)

However, John and Ken teed it up for Hunter at the end to speak of his campaign for President and all he did was say that his son was coming home from Afghanistan tomorrow and he was running for Congress and gave out his son’s website. Modesty and pride in his son, for sure, but I didn’t get a good “candidate” feel for the guy. I am sure I would be thrilled if he could make it into the WH, but could he?

I think Hannity is a great ex-hockey player. He is tough and willing to fight for our side. I do not agree with him on some specifics, of course, but I think he is a loyal fighter and I am glad he is on our side. We do not need everyone on our team to have Einstein IQs or to be of a certain erudition. Give me 20 Seans over half a Kerry any day.

I hate to see Sean’s intelligence insulted here. His show is probably not for you, maybe not for many of us, but it does GREAT work for others and really serves its purpose. We need him on our team. Let’s not be intellectual snobs. I love bulldogs and hockey players and Sean is a little of each.

Hunter can only make it to the White House with people such as you and me supporting him with a strong grassroots effort. I've read several posts in this thread waiting for Hunter to do something miraculous all by himself. Why wait? I frankly don't understand that kind of thinking. If we all adopt that attitude by waiting for the other person then nothing will get done. No candidate, including Hunter can do it by himself. It will take all of us to help him win.

Yea, yea, I know. He’s great at persuading soccor moms. That’s all fine and good, but he’s still the Barney Rubble of talk radio, and there’s nothing wrong with pointing it out among “FRiends.” If he’s got an interesting guest on his show, I’ll listen. But he’s a total zero. Never had an original thought in his life. Not entertaining.

“Hunter’s blandness is why I don’t think he’ll make any real headway. He’s not physically attractive and he does little to inspire people.”

Your description sounds much more like Fred Thompson and just the opposite of Duncan Hunter.

I don’t think that is correct. Rush is richer than he’ll ever need to be. He doesn’t have to work anymore.

Besides...It would be way to easy for rush to denounce rudy or romney. There is no argument in the world for rudy or romney that would hold up against rush’s analysis. It’s just too easy. They are NOT conservatives. They are liars. They are democrats in republican clothes.

We all heard rush say he was tired of carrying water for the bush administration. Well, carrying water for a romney or rudy administration would be way more tiring than that!

Mulally spent 40 years as a comparatively unostentatious senior exec at Boeing. About a year ago he joined Ford Motor Company as president and CEO.

Is this the same Ford Motor Company that is now heavily advertising in alternative lifestyle magazines? If this CEO had any input on that, he's on the wrong side of the homosexual issues.

I guess from looking at all of this so far...The media is really trying to drive this boat into next year obviously...And the GOP leadership seems to be devoid of anything substantive in vetting out and really doing what they need to do to establish, regardless of marketability (that will take care of itself eventually and in good time) of a candidate(s) who are more true to form to the party platform...Rudy and Mitt do not fit very well into that template...McPain is just that, a pain...

The second tier guys seem to be this group that no one (at least in the leadership) really wants anything to do with...And I really don;t care to understand that...I already know what I need to know...

And when the primaries in these states trying to get all the attention before many other states get a chance to make a difference in the primary process are really helping secure, once again, a “hold your nose” and pull the lever, elect the lesser of the two evils national election...

The grassroots is really getting tired of that...And that is what is going to keep a bunch of people home in November ‘08...

I believe Rush is correct to stay out of this...And let it all play out...It says enough to me that I know I am correct in a lot of my analysis of the candidates vying for this job...

And what really stinks is we may already have it determined by these first primary states like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, as soon as they are done, we may be stuck with something that doesn’t fit at all with the platform the party has worked so hard on to use as a good go-by for candidates to use to get the Republican CONSERVATIVE vote out there when we need to...

You asked where it was implied. I showed you that.

Deal with it or not. I don’t really care.
