Giuliani and Schumer: an odd couple connection
Newsday ^ | November 19, 2007 | Tom Brune

In 1973, a 29-year-old federal prosecutor named Rudy Giuliani indicted a Brooklyn congressman, unknowingly creating a political opening for an ambitious 23-year-old named Chuck Schumer.

It is the first and least known link between two powerful New York politicians whose paths have crossed and careers intersected in often surprising ways over the past four decades.

But it certainly wasn't the last.

Just two weeks ago, Sen. Schumer (D-N.Y.) found himself defying his own party to confirm U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey, a retired Manhattan judge and close friend of the former mayor.

Schumer and Giuliani may seem an odd pairing, but they have connected in ways that often have been mutually beneficial in the past and might be again in the future.

Now that history could prove politically awkward in this presidential season for Schumer, a prominent backer of Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Giuliani, the leading GOP contender.

Republicans rail against Schumer for launching filibusters against conservative judge nominees, leading his party's takeover of the Senate and demanding that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales resign.

Democrats criticize Giuliani's years as mayor for his confrontational dismantling of liberal programs, a lack of tolerance for dissent and allowing overzealous policing to alienate minorities.

Still, they share more than reputations as a liberal Democrat and an increasingly conservative Republican would suggest.

"They both have a middle-class, outer-borough sensibility," said Fred Siegel, a Giuliani biographer.

"They see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues," added Democratic consultant George Arzt. "They both view themselves as champions of middle-class values."

Schumer, 56, and Giuliani, 63, share some unconventional common ground: Both were born in Brooklyn, the home of the Dodgers, but grew up as Yankees fans.(continued)

From the New York Times, March 8, 1994----

Democratic lawmakers praised the Mayor's push for gun control. "It would be great if Mayor Giuliani could become the point Republican pushing comprehensive gun control legislation," said Representative Charles E. Schumer, the Brooklyn Democrat who is the leading proponent of handgun control in the House of Representatives.

A LIBERAL bully President Giuliani and Chuckie Schumer (not to mention all of the liberal buddies Giuliani would flood his administration with) will have LOTS of chances to work together in a bi-partisan manner on this and many, many other issues. /s

Rudy has so many sleazy ghosts in his closets - it is imperative that he be defeated in the primaries!

Now is the time for conservatives to unite behind a candidate that can win - by putting our numbers together, we can defeat this man. By staying in split-up groups - we cannot, it’s as simple as that.

Rudy Must Be Defeated In The Primaries!!!

And to this day...

People foolish enough to support Rudy because "he's tough on terrorism" [for which there is no evidence but grandstanding and rhetoric] and crime need to read this article. Schumer is just as "tough" on those issues. Why not just nominate a Democrat, and not a Democrat with a token "R" after his name?

These two share the same donors, the same philosophy (govt. knows best; gimme your guns), the whole NYC political culture, which is completely out of step with Republican traditions.

Of course, with political-opportunist-of-the-worst-sort, flip-flopper, and slimy political chamelion, RINO-rudy, AFTER the primary, or AFTER (GOD FORBID) he becomes President, the above line will read...

increasingly LIBERAL "Republican", as Mr. sopRINO goes back to his true self.

Observation:

Definition of Vaudeville: Stage entertainment, Especially popular in the early 20th Century, offering a variety of short acts such as slapstick turns, song and dance routines, juggling performances, animal acts, and impersonations.

Definition of Vaudevillian: One whom works in vaudeville, especially a performer.

Some Broadway and Club performers hung on to Vaudeville throughout its death-throws into the late 1930’s, but Vaudeville died no matter their efforts.

This article provides us insight to the afterlife of Vaudeville.

It is now the Leftist’s Political Vaudeville, and the Democrats/RINO’s in spite of the Internet still have the old MSM to keep their version of Vaudeville alive.

“It’s Showtime”.

NO RUDY!

IMO there are two true Conservatives in the running for the Presidency. We need elevate both of their presence, and raise the electorate’s level of conciousness about the true issues that face America today.

NO RON PAUL!
