Philadelphia Gives Boy Scouts Ultimatum
Washington Post ^ | 11/19/07 | Dafna Linzer

PHILADELPHIA -- This may be the last free Thanksgiving dinner for the Boy Scouts of Philadelphia.

Citing a local 1982 "fair practices" law, the city solicitor has given the Scouts until Dec. 3 to renounce its policy of excluding homosexuals or forfeit the grand, Beaux-Arts building it has rented from the city for $1 a year since 1928.

"While we respect the right of the Boy Scouts to prohibit participation in its activities by homosexuals," the solicitor, Romulo Diaz, said last week in an interview, "we will not subsidize that discrimination by passing on the costs to the people of Philadelphia."

Thank God the Boy Scouts have taken a stand for righteousness and will not give into these liberal whiners and the depraved sodomites that want to infiltrate their organization.

I was an Eagle Scout and the Boy Scouts is a great organization for molding young men of character - I’m glad it has remained true to its principles.

Philadelphians need to remove Diaz from office ASAP.

Funny - the entire article failed to mention that it was the BSA that raised the funds to build the building in 1928.

Don't read the 'comments' after the article unless you were planning to skip lunch...

I’m embarrassed to say I was born and raised in that city ... it sure as heck isn’t any longer the city I grew up in

It just stands to reason that homosexual pedophiles would gravitate to a boys organization, especially when the activities involve going out into the secluded woods and other areas. Even with the Scouts’ policy of excluding homosexuals, they still slip through sometimes by hiding their orientation. It shows how sick our society is that there are government agents wanting to force the Scouts to admit these perverts wholesale.

My very first words on this thread-- "Is there a source to show the rate of gay scout leaders, before the ban, who abused kids compared to that of priests?"

It does not improve your position regarding pedophile scout leaders to bring up that there are pedophile priests. The solution is to bar gay men from access to BOTH scouts and altar boys

“why on earth would an organization with strong American traditions, values, and standards want to be anywhere near a place like Philadelphia?”

When was the last time you were in Philadelphia?

I am all over Philadelphia regularly, on business. Always armed, too.

“I am all over Philadelphia regularly, on business. Always armed, too.”

What kind of “business” brings you into Philly armed? Are you a driver for Brinks?

The city is generally safe unless you fall into those high risk groups... cops and thugs.

Philly has experienced a real surge in investment... it’s a great city with a lot to do and see. Sorry you fear it.

“I think Philladelphia is a suburb of Hell!”

You wouldn’t know, because you don’t know anything about it.

Exhibit A: Philadelphia is spelled with two l’s, not three.

Well, I stand in awe of your assessment.

I still stand by my assessment. You and your fellow "gentle spirits" must be kept away from the youth. The Boy Scouts are absolutely correct in their position. The building is the property of the Scout Council. What the Organized Crime Entity known as the Municipal Government of Philadelphia or Philladelphia (Extra "l" added to show close association with Hell.) is doing is wrong, immoral and indecent. Beyond that, it is petty and pretty well sucks.

Now, take your outrage and place it where the sun doesn't shine. I really do not care about your rebuttal.

At least the Democraps in Philly are willing to stand up to those dastardly boy scouts. Now if they could do something about the record murder rate.

Someone get John “Nero” Street a violin.

As a pregnant woman, I’ll make a note of that. I wouldn’t want my gentle spirit to damage my child in any way.

Oh, now I get it... you’re lame at writing.

My assessment still seems pretty much on the mark... if you think Philadelphia is hell, you were either last there in the 80’s, or you just never knew much about it to begin with.

You know, here in Florida the Gay community got all of these civic associations and organizations to side with them, and forced the boy scouts to do it on their own w/o the support that the scouts had in the past. and all this did was put more of the financial burden on it's members (Children). But you know, we did it and are surviving just fine without those pomp-ass organizations. And you know what, the homosexual organizations have not contributed one damn thing to give back to those people that shunned the Scouts. To me they deserve each other and we'll continue to toast marshmallows on our own damn fire.....

it’s a great city

Except the city is trying to force the Boy Scouts to admit homosexual scout leaders to take little boys off into the woods. If the Boy Scouts won't agree to this, then the city is basically telling the Boy Scouts to get out of town.

Yeah. That's a great city.

Love the history of the place but have been there twice and don’t wanna go back. Just not my kind of place.

Their treatment of the scouts is deplorable as well. Seems the only group that warrants any kind of special treatment these days is the gays. Everyone else must re-distribute their wealth to support them.

“Yeah. That’s a great city.”

Yes... it IS a great city.

Philadelphia law requires that gays not be discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation. The scouts are violating that law.

You might disagree with the law, but there it is.

Additionally, I just looked up news items on this... the Philly chapter tried to get the Scouts to allow homosexuals. The national chapter shot it down.

I hope they come to a compromise.

Do you approve of that law? Why should engaging in unnatural behavior be a basis for protection from "discrimination", particularly when it's being forced on children who could be harmed by such conduct?
