Obama: Don't 'Swift boat' me
By: Mike Allen and Ben Smith Nov 17, 2007 12:54 PM EST Barack Obama In an unusual preemptive statement, the Democratic presidential candidate reacts to a report that a smear is coming.
Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) took the rare step of issuing a statement in his own name on Saturday to call attention to a report by columnist Robert D. Novak that New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign is sitting on scandalous information about Obama.
The information was not described and there is no proof it exists.
Obama accused Clinton of Swift boat politics and vowed he will not be intimidated.
I am prepared to stand up to that kind of politics, whether it's deployed by candidates in our party, in the other party or by any third party, Obama said. The cause of change in this country will not be deterred or sidetracked by the old Swift boat politics. The cause of moving America forward demands that we defeat it.
Howard Wolfson, Clinton's campaign communications director, said she has "no idea" what the item is about.
"Once again Sen. Obama is echoing Republican talking points, this time from Bob Novak," he said in an e-mailed statement.
"This is how Republicans work.

“Can’t tell you...Noooooo”
He is truely an empty suit or should I say an empty noggin.
Odds are, the MSM will blame the republicans, so the GOP will look bad.
That's what is so odd. Don't either of these two WANT to be president? They aren't going to get anywhere by playing nice with the Clintons.
They’re sure tryin’ to alter its meaning!
Now, if they try to "Bork" you, they're being unfair!
Back off boogaloo.
I can agree with that, but he plays one on television and he did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.
Does that sound like a threat to anyone else? Or what? Or he'll call his ROP friends and get something started early? This country is so over if any Dem gets in.
DUNCAN HUNTER in '08
Give me a stout hearted man.
since this has become a favorite political saying, I do hope the Swiftvets see it as a proud badge of honor.
Don't forget how they're always "fighting for working families."
If the 'rats didn't have sound bites, they'd have nothing at all.
Make no mistake Clinton Inc. will chew up anyone who is Hildes path to the Presidency.
Choir boys need not apply for the Republican Nomination.

Your assessment is 100% correct.
And Hillary is going to be the Democrat nominee.
It may takesome airplane crashes and suicides but when the dust settles she will get the nomination.
I don't know. These are the people who keep re-electing weird, phoney Nam Vet Tom Harkin to the Senate. Anything could happen.
LOL! So true.
dems caught planting questions in the last debate!!
Two stories behind the alleged Clinton debate success
CNN Stocked Audience and Controlled Thursday's Debate Questions
My take is that the Clinton camp have sent another less than subtle message to the Obama camp [the other being the one via Drudge to Wolf Blitzer at CNN prior to the Las Vegas “debate”] that if they jump on the rumor about Hillary, then the Clintons are ready to unload on Obama. A similar approach to those FBI files that came in very handy when they were previously in office.
A liberal makes a press release about another liberal... They go back and forth about intimidation and decide it was a Republican’s fault??? You cant make this stuff up, as Rush would say.
Does anyone know any more at this point? What is the alleged scandal?
