Giuliani once again negates concerns over his social positions by supporting strict constructionists to the federal bench, unlike in NYC, where Rudy had to appoint judges from a Democrat-chosen slate.

Rudy would appoint federal judges who adhere to Conservative Principles

And then the author woke up in a pool of his own drool...

Who Rudy might nominate, or who Romney, McCain, Thompson, or any other GOPer might nominate is irrelevant.

The democratic controlled Senate will not confirm a card carrying federalist. Nor will they confirm a stealth federalist.

The Gang of Fourteen emerged and paved the way for Alito's confirmation but when SCOTUS made the ruling that lowered the "glass ceiling", those moderate dems in the Gang realized that they had made a mistake, and they won't do that again.

It is very easy to fool some people with words which mean nothing, all you do is lie about your intentions. It is a lot harder to fool many when they look at your past actions. Frootie Loop is toast.

Ronald Reagan was the best President in my lifetime, and ranks among the top 3 ever. Even so, he gave us O'Connor and Kennedy, along with Sutter from his running mate who later bacame President.

Reagan had mostly a Democrat congress to deal with, and in doing so, had to negotiate with Tip O'Neil from MA. Did Reagan get Roe v. Wade overturned or made a high priority? Not ... in my memory. Did Reagan have to give away half the store to get what he wanted? Yes ... many times. Did events during the Reagan years give us the Brady Bill ... Yes, unfortunately.

Fast forward to Rudy's tenure in NYC. He had to pick Democrat allies from within a vast corrupt Democrat political machine just to put a staff together. Republicans were completely irrelevent during his 2 terms. Who is to say what Rudy would do, other than Rudy himself, if given a 50/50 chance on any issue vote? He has no uncompromised political history.

Rudy is not my first pick to be President. Thompson or Hunter are. At this time in the campaign, I think Rudy can beat daBeast.

Nonsense, he's pandering.

Rudy Giuliani on Judge John Roberts, Hannity & Colmes, July 21, 2005

"And what's important to me is to have a very intelligent, very honest, very good lawyer on the court. And he fits that category, in the same way Justice Ginsburg fit that category."

~snip~

"That's be exactly the kind of person you'd think that you'd want to appoint, somebody who shares kind of your general outlook, but hasn't indicated and hasn't really predetermined most of the cases that are going to be determined by the court.

"Presidents, going back to the beginning of the republic, generally appoint people on the Supreme Court that they believe agree with them. It's sort of an extraordinary thing to ask of President Bush. Nobody asked it of President Clinton.

"President Clinton appointed people that basically agreed with his political philosophy, which is left of center. Of course, President Bush is going to appoint people that basically agree with his political philosophy. And then what we found out about the Supreme Court is, we don't really know until after they're on the court where they're going to end up."

Please ping me to all note-worthy Pro-Life or Catholic threads, or other threads of interest. While he was the “Republican Mayor” of New York City he appointed more than 60 men and women to the Civil, Criminal, and Family Court benchs. In all of those judicial appointment only two were Republican.

All of his other judical appointments were either registered Liberals or registered Democrats. As the “Republican Mayor” he had appointment power over more than 70 full commissioners in more than 50 City agencies, yet at no time during his administration did REPUBLICANS account for more than 10% of those appointments.

He even appointed Chuck Schumers wife as the City’s Department of Transportation Commissioner.

“And even as we grieve for those who lost their lives, and our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their loved ones, we may be able to find some sort of meaning in this tragedy by using it as a catalyst to revive national gun control efforts.”
Rudolph Giuliani

At the first Republican debate in May, Giuliani was alone among the GOP candidates in offering a less-than-robust affirmation when asked whether it would be a good day if the Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade ruling.

"It would be OK," Giuliani said. "It would be OK to repeal it."

But, he added: "It would be OK also if a strict constructionist viewed it as precedent" and kept the law intact.

I’m pro-choice. I’m pro-gay rights, Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. “No, I have not supported that, and I don’t see my position on that changing,” he responded. Source: CNN.com, “Inside Politics” Dec 2, 1999 http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Rudy_Giuliani_Abortion.htm

ANDERSON COOPER 360 DEGREES (November 14, 2006)

RUDY GIULIANI (R), FORMER MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY: I'm pro- choice. I'm pro-gay rights.

KING: Giuliani supports a woman's right to an abortion, and back in 1999, he opposed a federal ban on late-term abortions.

GIULIANI: No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing.

KING: Immigration could be another presidential landmine. Back in 1996, Mayor Giuliani went to federal court to challenge new federal laws requiring the city to inform the federal government about illegal immigrants.

JEFFREY: He took the side of illegal immigrants in New York City against the Republican Congress.

KING: Giuliani opposes same-sex marriage but as mayor, he supported civil unions and extending health and other benefits to gay couples. He also supported the assault weapons ban and other gun control measures opposed by the National Rifle Association.

GIULIANI: I'm in favor of gun control. I'm pro-choice.

Republican Big-Wigs Support Pro-Abortion Event in NY

Pro-abortion Governor George Pataki and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also supports unrestricted abortion, are co-chairs of the 2000 Choice Award Presentation to be held on May 30 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. The event is sponsored by the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition, a group that is campaigning for the removal of the pro-life plank from the Republican National Platform.

PAHLEEEZ....

This is just more Giulian saving.

They AP and the rest of the NYC media whores want Hillary R vs Hillary D so they can have NYC liberal vs NYC liberal.

Giulaini has ZERO credibility in selecting conservative judges because his BEHIND the scenes staffers are NYC liberals. THey will do the “slate.”

Just look a Arlen Specter. Left wing staffers.

RG might try but when the Democrat senate shoots down his first choice he will appoint someone the Senate will accept.
He would be more credible if he would promise to NOT appoint non originalist/strict constructionist judges at all. He does not have to fill vacancies. Nothing in the Constitution mandates how many Justices there must be.
