I’m surprised the desertions are not higher!
Especially since there has been reluctance to punish wartime deserters with the maximum punishment called for in the UCMJ..
Death.
The current 1% desertion rate, is not good - but neither is it unexpected.
- Judging from some of the numb nuts that have come to our attention lately, like the notorious “Phony Soldier” Russ was attacking, who SOMEHOW got past an Army Recruiter too eager to make his quota.
- The Army’s advertising seems to appeal less to the warrior ethos....than to self serving purposes.
- The multiple tours the warriors have been facing, which can lead to times in harm’s way exceeding precedent with the exception of WWII - where men were there for nearly the “duration” or “death”... large numbers of men have served a full 3 tours already, with no end currently insight..
- The constant harangue by the press that “all is lost”..
- The “toning down” of boot camp - and the resulting failure to weed out the losers before they have the need to desert to escape a challenge they clearly are too feminized to meet.
