Why are so many people leaving the UK?
John Redwood's Diary ^ | 16 Nov. 2007 | John Redwood, MP

Posted on 11/16/2007 3:58:05 PM PST by DesScorp

The papers today ask why 400,000 left the Uk last year to live and work somewhere else. I would have thought the answer was obvious.

They’ve had enough.

We live in a country where anyone who has gained some qualifications, who tries to pay their own way and to live a decent life feels targetted by this government. We have our identity assaulted, our democratic views ignored, our pockets and purses rifled by the state, our opinions criticised or banned and the public services we do wish to use run incompetently or rationed for us.

Think of ALL of the young men and women (along with some not so young) that are fighting our enemies at this very moment. Add to those HEROIC Military men and women, American Patriots (like some here on this thread) that love GOD and Country enough to do whatever becomes necessary... and you can rest well... assured that there ARE Americans that will not go quietly into the night.

“I think...that the Scots...just may be the people who don’t give in.”

Sadly, a friend of mine just emigrated from Scotland (he came here for love) and, although he is a very decent guy, he is the most PC euro-lefite that I have ever met. He seems to have the will to “resist” the English, but not the muslims, or anybody else, for that matter.

I am slowly getting him to turn from the (leftie) dark side. Its all he has ever known, the UK being what it is.

Or will they act out and lecture us to live under the failing ideologies they left?

This really is an amazing phenonmenon. People leave a society they are fed up with and go to a new land to seek freedom. However, after having a respite and tasted a different lifestyle for a while, they long for the familiar. As a result, recent immigrants often work to create the same kind of hell hole they left. This is true be it Muslims or transplanted New Yorkers.

>Am I wrong? I don’t know enough to really know except that the Scots seem to have great backbone.

you were right maybe a thousand years ago.

The Scots that I have met and trained here are some of the most liberal communist loons that I have ever met.

some of the English that I have trained have firmly stated that England would move about 180 degrees to the right if they could get Scotland to separate from the UK and stop sucking off of the collective tit.

I disagree to a point with that statement.

In England, many of the traditional dishes are regional and have been made with local products and produce. There is a good movement afoot to reintroduce these dishes and to use the excellent seafood, lamb, beef and vegetables. Rick Stein among others is a leader in this area.

You mean that the Europeans are moving off the continent because of all the New Yorkers who are moving in? That’s an easy problem to solve. All you have to do is teach the Euros one word: Forgetaboutit!!

Its a stunning turn of events, and one has to wonder if it could happen here.

It could. I know some who've already left the US (presumably) never to return, and others considering same. And none are liberal wackos.

Just watch out for that ex-pat-tax Congress passed ca. 1996.

The Scots strike me as having bought aboard socialism far more than Americans, sad to say.

The above is so ture it is shocking. what scares me about people moving to the State I live in, is that when they come to this State they bring their culture and political views with them. Little Virginia was once conservative. Northern Virginia is now no different than New Jersey.

I’m already looking at other countries to move to. To say I am tired of the PC-ness, minority rule, high taxes, government and slow creeping anarchy is an understatement. I think Switzerland tops the list (very far from your typical Euro country) and Australia comes in second. Other than that, I have no clue.

I think us conservatives need to save a few million dollars, buy a few islands from a poor nation and develop our own country.

Actually, I was talking about NYers moving down South. However, if there ever was a NY migration to Europe, I’m sure the whole continent would empty—fast.

It would have been easier to move to Nevada, don’t you think?

...the ex-Brits you talk to will say “the weather” if you ask them why they left.

Gee, I figured it would be things like Spotted Dick and Toad in the 'ole.
