"Diamond v. Pearl" Student Blasts CNN-(CNN screened and gave out questions at the debate)
Atlantic ^ | 11-16-07 | Atlantic

Posted on 11/16/2007 1:15:17 PM PST by tcrlaf

Maria Luisa, the UNLV student who asked Hillary Clinton whether she preferred "diamonds or pearls" at last night's debate wrote on her MySpace page this morning that CNN forced her to ask the frilly question instead of a pre-approved query about the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository.

"Every single question asked during the debate by the audience had to be approved by CNN," Luisa writes. "I was asked to submit questions including "lighthearted/fun" questions.

I submitted more than five questions on issues important to me. I did a policy memo on Yucca Mountain a year ago and was the finalist for the Truman Scholarship. For sure, I thought I would get to ask the Yucca question that was APPROVED by CNN days in advance."

Now, Luisa is getting "swamped" with critical e-mails.

So what happened?

Writes Luisa:

"CNN ran out of time and used me to "close" the debate with the pearls/diamonds question. Seconds later this girl comes up to me and says, "you gave our school a bad reputation.'

Well, I had to explain to her that every question from the audience was pre-planned and censored. That's what the media does. See, the media chose what they wanted, not what the people or audience really wanted. That's politics; that's reality.

So, if you want to read about real issues important to America--and the whole world, I suggest you pick up a copy of the Economist or the New York Times or some other independent source.

If you want me to explain to you how the media works, I am more than happy to do so. But do not judge me or my integrity based on that question."

Somehow, I just can’t see giving the Hildabeast a pearl necklace...

It's the same secret used when walking a tightrope high up in a circus tent...

"Don't look down!!!"

“CNN ran out of time and used me to “close” the debate with the pearls/diamonds question.”

Close the debate? What debate? I think she meant, “close the scripted, canned performances of the Dem candidates.”

The only hard question of the night was directed at THREAT #1, Obama, regarding the Yucca mountain site, and he was hit hard by the followup “you are opposed to bringing nuclear waste from other states and keeping it in Illinois.

The question is, if not in your backyard, whose?”

Yet Hillary is allowed to SKATE on the illegal Drivers licence question, AGAIN...

That wasn’t a debate, it was a 2-hour Clinton Infomercial, provided free of charge by CNN.

And it won’t be the last, either...

It is not just collusion, imo.

They outright CAMPAIGN 24/7/365 against Republicans, for decades now.

They plan, organize, promote, coordinate, finance, recruit, train, they write scripts, fictionalize templates, stage events, and deliberately sabotage, smear, slander, sensationalize, they ruin reputations and livelihoods.

And have complete control over our reps in DC, and US policy.

Ah, a euphemism I was not familiar with, I see it now.

;-)

And I concur, it would be a difficult task to accomplish.........

rigged quiz show == rigged debate == rigged election.

The debate last evening accomplished one thing: It rehabilitated Hillary.

Her faultering in the previous debate is now history, so she reclaims the predominate front-runner position.

The debate accomplished its purpose, and Wolfie got the message from that shot over the bough a few days ago:

WOLF WARNED: NO GANGING UP ON HILLARY IN VEGAS! (CNN warned to be gentle)

CNN's Wolf Blitzer has been warned not to focus Thursday's Dem debate on Hillary. 'This campaign is about issues, not on who we can bring down and destroy,' top Clinton insider explains. 'Blitzer should not go down to the levels of character attack and pull 'a Russert.'' Blitzer is set to moderate debate from Vegas, with questions also being posed by Suzanne Malveaux... Developing.

I’ve been posting this since last night. Not only were the questions planned, but the information about the questioners was shared with the intended candidates. Obama gave it away when he thanked the woman who was introduced as a casino cage cashier for all the great work she had done for the Culinary Workers of America. He had no way to know that the woman was a kitchen worker, let alone a union officer.

More scripted unscripted questions...

Well, at least now we have PROOF, but it will (OF COURSE!) be ignored by those in the media who are supposed to be “impartial”...

Most of those people appeared to be repeating something that they had been forced to memorize. Some of the older questioners with accents appeared, when they stumbled or forgot part of their question, and then remembered the next part, to smile for a brief millisecond like “Oh yeah, THAT was the next part!”

It was so patent. OF COURSE they are going to have a guy who did three tours in Iraq but hates the war and is scared of going to Iran, and his Sheehan-like mother who believes nothing is worth anyone dying for. OF COURSE all these Democrats are going to give this guy a standing ovation for his (to them) stupidity at signing up voluntarily to kill great Iraqis just because an idiot President suggested it.

And OF COURSE there was going to be a Hispanic American who was pro-immigration. OF COURSE there was going to be an elderly American of Middle Eastern descent who is constantly profiled in airports (which ones, because I’d like to fly out of them - wherever I am, they are busy wanding blonde moms and Grandmas in walkers). The questions were set up like a T-ball stand.

And Hillary only wears “pretty jewelry” because the handlers put it on her. You don’t think she would dream of wearing all that makeup and highlighting her hair herself? They probably had to pull Old Crusty out of her closet and burn it, or she’d wear that thing every day. She MAY have been wearing the pants from it last night.

If I was a liberal, I think I’d go with Obama on likability or Biden/Richardson on experience.

I guess you didn't watch the debate last night. Richardson bombed, and so did Obama. I guess that leaves Biden.

Then Obama gave away the set up on the audience questions by revealing that he knew more about the woman who asked the question than the MC had announced. As a matter of fact he thanked her for her work on behalf of the Culinary Workers, when she was introduced as a casino cage cashier. I don't know if it was an intentional set up to make it look like all the candidates plant the questions, or what.

The entire thing was scripted to make HILLARY! look like she had overcome her “Stumble”, and Blitzer was threatened into going along with it.

A Disillusioned KOS’r even realizes it.

“don’t forget
She’s battlehardened after 275 years of vicious right-wing smears during the nineties. The teflon queen is TOUGH and ready to take on the republican smear machine,

even if she is the one that gives birth to those smears!”

CNN Planted the questions from "Independents" at the debate.

You don't think CNN was first given a list of "plant questions" to plant, do you?

I think that it was intentional to set up Obama as planting questions just like Hillary. You, know, the old everyone does it routine?

Biden was very relaxed last night.

I think he realized that it’s over for him, and he just didn’t give a damn. It sure came off that way!

Good post. Rush read an article today about the military mom...seems she is a well-known activist.

Speaking of Mrs. Pantsuit...I was once reading a book about fashion and the author was suggesting the ideal wardrobe. She wrote something like--even Hillary Clinton relied on one good black pantsuit during her Senate run... At that point I hurled the book across the room.

Biden came on the stage knowing that he had to take control, and he did. He tried to point out that he opposed some of the actions that Hillary’s husband took while in office as well as a lot of Bush’s actions. He also made sure that he got equal time on stage. I think that he acquitted himself very well.

I liked it when Dodd laughed at Hillary’s slip up on the education question, when she said that she opposed higher pay for exceptional teachers, and then when questioned about it further, said that she would weed out all the bad teachers. (someone said she used the word “crappy”, but I can’t be sure)

She could have refused the opportunity to ask the ‘jockey or boxer’ question and made a big splash in her rant against the media.

principle went out the window for 15 minutes of fame

She could have made something of lasting value out of it by refusing but now she is known as just another vassal of the institution.
