Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has decided to keep the chamber in session over the Thanksgiving break to block President Bush from making any unsavory recess appointments while Senators are out of town.
Mortimer Duke: **** him! Now, you listen to me! I want trading reopened right now. Get those brokers back in here! Turn those machines back on!
It ain’t cool being no jive turkey so close to Thanksgiving.
“reid to keep senate in session to prevent recess appointments.”
subversive trojans in action.
But if somebody questions the presence of a quorom, then they have to count and try to get enough back into the chamber to make 51 present. Rules are rules.
>>block President Bush from making any unsavory recess appointments while Senators are out of town.
No media bias there<<

Why for goodness sakes, isn’t “unsavory” a word that we all use every day? /s
Later in the article the reporter keeps quoting Harry talking about “Democratic appointments” that the President has delayed naming.
I’m not kidding, I have been following politics for a half a century and I have never heard of Administration Appointments belonging to the Party not in the White House.
Hell yes! Bush will be "At Home" in the WH or at the Texas ranch while these ninnies are staggering around town trying to keep up with Kennedy and his egg nog diet.
I will really hoping he’d be out of the Majority Leader chair sooner.
Thanks for responding.
Well put!
I’d love to see this play out just so I could watch Hilltop Harry sputter.
She can do it for her country. At least she won’t lose any limbs in the process.
Reid makes me miss Tom Daschle. And I couldn’t stand him.
Would love it.
With maybe enough all night sessions to put
Byrdbrain and some other aging flatulances under the table and well down the toilet.
Actually, we’re likely better off when the don’t do any work.
“It looks like your suspicion could be correct. A handful of Republicans could show up and without any dissent proclaim a quorum by unanimous consent. They could pass military funding, vote on judges and make mayhem. How delicious.”
By the same token... Democrats could stay behind and pass an Iraq withdraw bill if they felt like it, too... This quorum by consent sounds like a disaster... The 51 present rule makes much more sense.
I'd be interested in that.
Not when the troops need money and equipment while in combat! (but I know what you mean...)
True. true.
That sounds like the opening line to a good joke...
Where is an energy bill for energy independence? “Medicare/Medicade-SSI reform? Where is my secure border? Nothing is being fixed! If I did this to my house the building inspector would throw me out! Make them stand their without pee breaks the whole darn bunch of them overpaid louts!”
Thank you, my thoughts exactly, especially about the filibuster rules change...
Just one I suppose, to hold the party line and keep the Senate in session without doing anything.
It could get more interesting if a muckraker like Tom Coburn decided to also stay in town to demand a quorum and continually introduce resolutions to go into recess.
Sorry, but that wouldn't work. They would still have to get 60 votes to invoke cloture and bring anything to a floor for a vote. They could have quorum calls all day long and proclaim the senate to be in session, but they couldn't actually do anything.
