Is it true that Harry said, “Since I can’t do my job the way I am supposed to, the least I can do is keep the Senate in session to prevent the President from doing his job”?

President Bush should make his recess appointments anyway and let the courts fight it out all of next year. What does He have to lose?

That is exactly why we should wish them a "Merry Christmas" at every opportunity.

Oh Yea! So ummmm... Harry, you gonna keep congress in session through Christmas, and Easter, and what other holidays are there before Mr. Bush is out of Office? Yea, I would call Harry a Parer Tiger, but frankly I don’t think he rates even that.

Great. Let’s see him get some work done. Bush needs to call a special session and get the tax cuts made permanent, social security privatized, and the war funded.

What’s dingy Harry going to do the whole month of December? Doesn’t the Senate take off about a month at Christmas time? How is he going to keep the senators in DC when they want to be home for Christmas? This again is a bunch of symbolism over substance. Harry will have to cave.

The following explains what a “Pro Forma Session” is:

C-SPAN Congressional Glossary
Term Definition Used In
Pro Forma Session A daily meeting of the House or Senate during which no votes are held and no legislative business is conducted. The session “in form only” is held for purposes of meeting the 3-day rule in the Constitution. It requires each House to gain the permission of the other for recesses longer than 3 days. When the permission is not forthcoming, or not requested in time, the affected chamber convenes briefly with hardly anyone in attendance [the opening prayer, routine announcements, and sometimes short non-legislative speeches are conducted], and then adjourns. Congress’ favorable numbers are now down to only ELEVEN PERCENT. Roll the dice, fool...

GO AHEAD. MAKE OUR DAY!

U.S. CONSTITUTION, ARTICLE 11, SECTION 3,"...he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper..."

President Bush can just threaten to adjourn both houses, since the Senate and the House are in disagreement as to the time of adjournment...............thus, the ball will be in Reid's court, for then Reid would have to force BOTH houses to convene during the holiday(s)......in order to prevent recess appointments.......it would be fun to watch, indeed!

Fighting 3 wars, on three fronts (Iraq, Afghanistan and World Wide War on Terror) in my book, would certainly merit "extraordinary Occasions".........

Is it even legal for Congress to actually sit on a federal holiday?

When will Harry reap what he sows? Like most Dems in Congress, beyond a disgusting human being. . .and truly a pathetic embarassment.

Please, bring them home to stay. . .

Appears so, but by holding Pro Forma Session(s), Reid is technically, and legally demonstrating that there is no agreement.............for the purpose of Pro Forma Session is to perform an “end around” disagreements concerning recesses/adjournments...........

Well, with that in mind, Bush should wait until about noon on on Christmas Eve and line up to do some appointments. Of course I hope and doubt that this door to door service by the Defense Department to the Senators to get to DC is not a “round trip” booking...........scannell
