A Winchester principal who bowed to some parents objections and scrubbed a seventh-grade field trip to Miracle on 34th Street said the classic Christmas tale is too focused on Santa Claus and doesnt tie into the schools curriculum.
McCall Middle School Principal Evander French Jr. has axed the trip to a Dec. 19 performance of the play at the Stoneham Theatre, a Scrooge-like move that has angered parents.
The people who complained were concerned about the very narrow focus on Santa Claus, French said yesterday...
On Friday, an e-mail was sent to parents telling them the trip was canceled. French wrote that he was recently asked why the entire seventh-grade class was going to the play when the basic theme is objectionable to some members of our McCall Middle School seventh-grade community.

Maybe they could stage an “honor killing” or a stoning for Show & Tell as well.
I get the impression that the complaints came from Christians, not from PC types. Of course, the article is not specific.
That's what I thought. Those who weren't allowed to go could be placed elsewhere in the school - gym, library, etc.
Can’t be, there aren’t any Christians left in Winchester.

You have it. Unfortunately, most people prefer to vent.
How do people like this get and keep jobs.....
One problem with public schools is they waste time on silly crap like Santa Claus movies, etc. instead of teaching things like reading/riting/rithmatic.
The school district that my kids attend does allow things like this (at the holidays). It is a one day, ‘special’ that is a priviledge that can (and is) taken away for bad behavior/grades, etc. Think of it as an end of the semester reward. Still...can’t quite grasp the prob. w/’Miracle.’
Same for me. I’m getting so tired of this crap! Today you are not allowed to say or do anything that may offend anyone. Oh wait a minute. Except of course if you are Christian, a white male, or conservative,
Hot tar and feathers works for me.
