Rattling the Cage: Bush won't bomb Iran
Jerusalem Post ^ | November 14, 2007 | Larry Derfner

Posted on 11/15/2007 5:54:33 PM PST by america4vr

I don't think President Bush is going to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities, not before the presidential election next November 4, and not between then and the day he leaves office the following January 20, either.

As reckless as he is, I don't think he's that reckless. He wouldn't make a move that could set off WMD missile wars, invasions, coups, Islamic revolutions and whatnot all over the Middle East, then just fly back to the ranch and let somebody else clean up the mess. If Bush was at the beginning of his term, he might do it, but not with time running out, and not when he's heading into the sixth year of two Middle Eastern wars he can't win and can't quit. And that was the situation before this month's state of emergency in Pakistan reminded everyone that Iran isn't the only country where Islamic fanatics could get the Bomb; Pakistan already has it, and the Taliban is that country's rising power.

Bush has to ask himself: What effect would a US attack on Iran do to the situation in Pakistan? Would it strengthen the Taliban even more, would it bring them closer to taking over a nuclear-armed country of 160 million people?

I not too familiar with that, but it makes sense. Clearly he felt in the Brits and Americans he'd find kindred spirits when it came to racial theories. Was that a miscalulation with the Brits and Americans get little credit for. Sympathy with our Aryan brothers, sure, that'll happen.

A little off topic, but I loved Mailer's Castle in the Forest and look forward to the sequel. Wish I knew where, if at all, the fiction ended.

Yes, Japan’s rationale for war with the United States and what you said why Hitler may have done the same was the grave miscalculation regarding the enormity of the US economy.and its seemingly infinite resources, capacity to wage global war on two fronts.

His, yes, I now see you weren't making a comment, rather responding to a post which has been vaporized.

December 6, heck, I'm an oft criticized neocon. With vision, 1939 was the time, while FDR may have been an anglophile, the writing was on the wall, we should have aggressively come to the support of our British and French allies. Not necessarily a declaration of war, but at least open, direct support, and enough honest conversation to shut up the then Cindy Sheehans, aka America Firsters, bund supporters et al. In that context would Japan have attacked, who knows, would have been a different world when their time arrived.

As I;m sure you are aware, the political maelstrom of the day precluded
FDR from taking any clearer stand than he did. There was a very powerful, vociferous mindset of isolationism within our government that is easy to chastise
from the perspective of history. FDR was absolutely in the pro-war camp but had little room for maneuvering at the time, which has given rise to all the Pearl Harbor conspiracy talk of FDR, Churchill knowing about the attack in advance but allowing
it to happen for obvious reasons.

Yes, the more things change.... and all that. Clearly FDR couldn’t effectivly act, though support like lend-lease was a major plus. Can’t believe I’m posting this, in general I despise FDR. I’m not big on the conspiracy stuff, information exchange was a bit different in those days.

Haven’t you read The Plot Against America? Hitler was expecting Lindbergh to get elected President and become his ally and when that didn’t happen... no, wait, wait, that was just a novel...

Almost every single sentence is exactly backwards wrong. If we fail to disarm them, it causes prolif in the region.

Exactly right. The minute the Shias in Iran get nukes it'd set off a race in the Shiite Arab gulf region - specifically, Saudi Arabia - to get their own nukes. A nuclear arms race in the Islamic terrorist hub of the world isn't exactly in the best interest of the U.S. and the civilized world. In fact, it's as sure a way as any to start a World War.

“we should have aggressively come to the support of our British and French allies. Not necessarily a declaration of war, but at least open, direct support”

We did to an extent, as noted in Germany’s declaration of war: [The Government of the United States having violated in the most flagrant manner and in ever increasing measure all rules of neutrality in favor of the adversaries of Germany and having continually been guilty of the most severe provocations toward Germany ever since the outbreak of the European war, provoked by the British declaration of war against Germany on September 3, 1939, has finally resorted to open military acts of aggression.

On September 11, 1941, the President of the United States publicly declared that he had ordered the American Navy and Air Force to shoot on sight at any German war vessel...]

I like using this analogy with the lefties when they whine about international law (usually falsely claiming Operation Iraqi Freedom violates international law), putting them in a position where they have to defend Hitler against FDR’s aggression. Here’s a nice archive (called the Avalon Project) I find very interesting:

>>Bush has to ask himself one question ...

No Iran has to ask itself one question and the exchange goes something like this:

I know what you’re thinking: “Did he fire six shots, or only five?” Well, to tell you the truth in all this excitement, I’ve kinda lost track myself. But, being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Do I feel lucky?” Well, do ya punk?

All I can say is that there are some real idiots running the major powers in the world and W. isn’t among them on this issue.

Not removing the terrorist exporting Iranian régime means those Shi’ite thugs will continue infiltrating their own killers into Iraq with the purpose of murdering our troops.

Exactly, I’m not worried because whatever we do, Israel will take care of the problem, and they have all the necessary will and weaponry to do so. I’m not sure why Americans worry so much about it, because our Israeli friends will take care of matters, whatever our leadership does.

Unless Iran completely capitulates, I think President Bush will bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities.

And while there will be ‘no finger prints’ on the actions, most of the world will know that that the USA took down the entire network of a soviet-islamic backed terrorist state, right in their own back yard/s.

You know, after watching tonites Dem debates, they just do not get it about the kind of world we are in today. And I am not talking about a fence on the border yada yada yada, and that is a whole ‘nuther topic. They do not seem to get it that we are still in a war, and this war is percolating on several fronts.

And I guess I deviate here from the PC talk of the FR, in that I do not discount all $$$ spent on certain other programs as money totally pissed down the drain, just as I do not discount funding the military in peace times as $$$ pissed away.

But we are in a war now, and people need to understand that, and the Dems don't get it, its all just ‘Bush's fault, is fill in the blank bla bla bla.

I think the key to this election is not to run against Gorge Bush like the dems seem to be doing, but to articulate a new vision based on the values of America.

And tonite, the dems failed terribly, for one thing they were all for abortion, and they all hid behind the lie of roe-vs-wade. It seems that they do not get it that by the time a woman has a living child inside of her, several choices have already been made, by her and the man.
