I wash my hands probably 10+ times per day, and haven't gotten 'sick' in years. Now that I've said this, I'll probably be half dead with the flu next week...
Does zinc type products such as Zicam help stop or minimize this mutated cold virus? I haven’t had a cold in 3 years and I swear by Zicam.
There’s a mutated version of the common cold and it can be deadly.

Make a game of it, and wash hands with them.
I did this with my grandkids (we are raising two of them), showing them how to do it properly, and they have the green light to wash their hands at almost any time.
It really cut down on sick kids in our house.

True. And I admit I was being a bit facetious in my post.
But if you think about it, how many people are totally prepared to NOT go to the store for say two weeks at a time? How many are prepared to NOT handle what will be one of the prime culprits in any pandemic, a dollar bill?
I would, at the first sign of any serious outbreak, get the kids out of school asap. No matter what it takes.
Kids hands are constantly on the move - more often than not, back and forth from the things they touch, straight into their mouths. So beware. Have a good supply of childrens aspirin. I also recommend folks have tincture of iodine, because a small swab of iodine on the skin stimulates the thyroid, which in turn stimulates the immune system.
I’m pretty much a homebody hermit type so I try not to get to scared about stuff like this. But if a pandemic did happen, it would spread so fast that people would be astounded. You wouldn’t even be able to open your mail without gloves. (I have a supply of those too!)
And stock up on soap. You can buy like a cubic foot of soap for ten bucks. Nobody knows how to make it anymore.
During some type of unforseen event, plain old ordinary soap could be worth it’s weight in gold.
Preps are pretty basic, if people just think about what they use and buy a couple of extra and stock the shelves. If they consider what they would not want to be without, they might do OK.
Handling currency will be dangerous, but it probably already is (you never know where that stuff has been).
The YECs will never get this since evolution is impossible for them.
Very accurate description of what I just went through. Do not mess or toy with this one. If I was 20 to 30 years older, might not have made it. I picked it up on a trip to Dallas. Mine was all respiratory very close to pneumonia. From what I understand, the flu shots will not prevent this one. The elderly are especially vulnerable. Told my parents to disinfect me on their door stop when I show up on Thanksgiving. The virus can survive for weeks on surfaces. Anyone who is still within 2 weeks of infection should not mingle on Thanksgiving. Have someone bring the food to your house. IMHO.
