The 1983 solution raised taxes and reduced benefits, including raising the retirment age to 67 for full benefits. That fix was supposed to last for 75 years. We will face the same situation in 2017 that we faced in 1983.
I think you are wrong on many accounts, he will not be picked as VP. His islamic upbringing make him unelectable in the US. And I know exactly what started it - Bill Clinton and Tony Blair held some bonehead bio-conference and they made some absolutely bone-headed remark about genetics and DNA, sending the biotech market tumbling, the rest of the market followed. They attempted to retract/redact their statements but by then it was too late. It was freefalling. I know.
