Rick Warren is trying to help with an overwhelming problem in Africa. To build bridges to others who will have some impact on the possible solutions to that problem is the right thing for a Christian to do.
When Katrina hit New Orleans and the surrounding area our church family worked with anyone we could to help the people in need. (Gasp)We even help build a children's park once.
You are not compromised as a minister or a Christian if you work with others to accomplish a material goal. Warren is not asking H. Clinton to share the plan of salvation.

Imagine the photographs the Pharisees would have posted if they had had computers back when Jesus was eating with sinners. You are in danger of being like those who condemned the Lord.
To: Lancey Howard
Yes. He's a traitor for having gone to Syria, giving "aid and comfort" to an enemy of the United States who's directly involved in killing and injuring US troops in Iraq.
Hillary the communist will be in cozy company.

How is it a compromise to talk and listen to someone about a common problem? IS our faith so fragil? Or should we just never speak to those awful sinners? Do you do any business at all with anyone who is not a believer? Are you living by this standard yourself? Did a Christian build your home, is your surgeon a believer, who fixes your car....OH come on guys!

exactly... truly another sign of the times.
who am I to judge, but has rick warrens lamp gone out? i try to think of the following verse on my own life.
matthew 7
21 Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord," shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me in that day, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?"
23 And then I will declare to them, "I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness."

So satan walks into the church and says hey........
I don’t ask people about their religion. However if there were to be some oddball speaker at church on sunday who campaigns for abortion and homosexual rights then I would indeed have a concern and ask the pastor why is that person here.

What possible solutions could a pro-homosexual, pro-abortion, liberal politician offer that could have a positive impact (other than throw more tax-payer monies at the issue)?
However, I do think that Saddleback will be a perfect campaign stop for Hillary.

I suppose she might have a solution similar to a pro-homosexual, pro-abortion liberal doctor who stopped to give your wife emergency aid after an auto accident.
To: reflecting
Are you a member of this church that she is going to speak at?

According to Warren, "Inviting politicians from different perspectives to the Summit is not a political decision -- it is a humanitarian and Christian action." I think that should read: "Inviting politicians from different perspectives to the Summit is not a Christian decision -- it is a political and humanitarian action." He must put aside Christian beliefs to invite non-believers, liberal christians, Mormons and whatever else to speak at his church. As he states his reasons, it is to come together on the issue of AIDS (though there are important disagreements I would hope are not overlooked). Just because it is Christian to care about sick people, doesn't mean it is Christian to embrace any means and any representative.

no - and while I have read Rick Warren’s book, I also read many others.

So you are a fan of his. So no matter what sleazy person he drags in you will find a way to excuse it.
