Friends, family search for missing man

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Dozens of friends, family members, former classmates and complete strangers searched for a missing 24-year-old Tuesday night, but Kyle Fleischmann is still missing.

He disappeared five days ago after leaving an Uptown bar. At last check there are no solid leads and no contact with him.

Tuesday, nearly 100 people searched, holding flyers, pictures and maps. It's guess work.

"How far are you going to walk with no coat? I would be looking to get indoors any way I could,” said family friend Kandace Hopper while searching in Uptown.

"To see anybody go missing like this is just something you don't want to see happen,” said friend Shaun Sanders.

Searching for Kyle Sometimes, people disappear because they don't want to be found.

Family members think it is foul play. Police haven't ruled it out either.

"I know him well enough to know he would not do this,” Hopper said.

Kyle's father Richard says his son had another reason to be around.

"Because his mom is being operated on on Friday for cancer,” he said.

The search focused on an eight-block radius from Buckhead Saloon. That is where Kyle was drinking, left his debit card, called his sister for a ride home but didn't get an answer, walked out and made a few more calls looking for rides.

Those calls ended 3:30 a.m. Friday.

"We know he probably wandered around for an hour due to his phone records,” Hopper said.

Those calls trace back to a tower near Seigle Avenue and East 10th Street. That's the reason for the eight-block radius.

There's a lot of land in between, no Kyle and a family grateful for the help.

"Gotta search,” Fleischmann said.

Police did not take part in this. They have filed a missing persons report and assigned a detective. However, in general, missing persons who are adults don't warrant a big police response unless there's proof of a crime.

Thanks RD. There was another case that is just down I85 in Georgia last week that is almost identical to this one. It really makes one wonder...

Wow - it does make you wonder if someone out there is up to no good and if there is a pattern. Hopefully the cops are looking into that. I pray that they are both found safe.

Me too. I’ll post updates. Buckhead Saloon is 1/2 block from my office. If I can swing it on Saturday, I’m going to offer my help in a footsearch.

Wow, both cases are almost identical. Young, handsome white males leaving bars and disappear.......doesn’t sound good.

Isn’t there yet another story of a guy who is missing somewhere in the south? I think that was Alabama, and they found his car and determined that someone was using his credit cards. Sure sounds like he was robbed and probably killed. I had not heard anything else about that case though.

You’re right- and I think you may be talking about the grandson of the Alabama State Senator - and sadly they found his body today.

Charlotte is pretty shook up about this. He’s a wonderful kid, from a wonderful family. Uptown has a reputation of being a very safe place to socialize late night. His poor mom has breast cancer surgery in 2 days...I can’t help but think there could be someone cruising the stretch of I85. Those cases are just too similar...

I want to say my heart and prayers go out to all the families missing their children.

I have a question....
Is gang activity suspected in any of the disappearances?

How sad and sickening. Yet we will probably hear again when the perpetrator is caught that this is another scumbag with a record as long as your arm who should have been locked up for a long time. More and more innocent lives are lost because we are way too soft on criminals.
