‘Kheil Coppin, 18, was pronounced dead after being shot eight times amid a flurry of 20 bullets.’
After hearing the 911 audio, my only question is what to do about the poor marksmenship of the LEO’s in question.
Cops are taught to respond as an individual marksman. The military are taught to respond as a team. Here is the difference. Twelve cops on line with weapon unholstered. Perp appears before them and draws a gun and shoots one round at them and misses. All twelve cops will open fire until the perp goes down. Soldiers are taught to engage targets that appear in their sector. Same scenario, except only three of the twelve who are closests to the perp would open fire. The rest will just take cover and scan their sectors for any other target and protect the firers flanks. Result, cops end up using more bullets to take down a perp and suffer bad PR.
