Even as he continues to hold a convincing lead in the national race, Rudy Giuliani may be riding for a big fall in Iowa and the other early state primaries. Mitt Romney, despite his anemic national showing, could sweep Iowa, New Hampshire and Michigan, a trifecta that could give him such momentum as to sweep him to the nomination.
The numbers are scary for Giuliani (and since Mitt doesn't have a prayer in hell of beating Hillary in a general election, scary for us all). While he holds a lead in the national polls (Giuliani 30, Thompson 17, McCain 15, Romney 12, Huckabee 9 -- all data is from the average of the past five polls posted on www.realclearpolitics.com), he is trailing badly in all the early states.
In Iowa, the first caucus, it's Romney 29, Huckabee 15, Giuliani 13, Thompson 12, McCain 8. And New Hampshire isn't much better. There it's Romney also in the lead with 32 percent, Rudy a distant second at 21 percent, McCain at 16 percent, Huckabee at 7 percent and Thompson at 5 percent. And Michigan, which might be just a few days after New Hampshire, shows Romney also in the lead at 25 percent with Rudy at 20 percent.

Colorado is going Dem, sad to say, but all of the Kalifornians are swamping the State.
Hey Morris is no dummy. I think he is promulgating the opinion that Mitt “can’t beat Hillary” so she will hope Mitt does get the nomination. But, in fact, I think Morris actually knows that Mitt will beat her.
IOW, he trying to get Clinton off her guard.
I thought Howard Dean was the Dem nominee?
Before you get to smug, even Karl (Bastard fmrly known as Magnificent) Rove had Howard Dean as the Dem nominee in 2004.
John French Kerry came out of the nowhere to win in Iowa at this point in time he was at 6% or so in Iowa polls 50 days out.
Morris is smoking dope here.
That is the excuse but it doesn't work. Like him or hate him, Ron Paul showed that it is possible to win and win big taking controversial positions that ran against the views of voters (such as opposing NASA and military spending, both extremely popular programs in his district).
I'm not supporting Mitt in the primary, but it seems to me he has a lot better chance against Hillary than Rudy.
No, we're just against not being able to look at ourselves in the mirror.
Romney couldn’t beat Hillary’s foyer carpet if it were hanging on a clothesline.
If you think that is going to happen no matter who is the White House, you're delusional.
Moving the Republican party to the left, assuring both parties are advancing liberalism, guaranteeing no conservative President until 2016 and no chance of Republicans taking back congress for at least a decade is what not only unprincipled but stupid. Giuliani in the White House equates to political suicide for the conservative movement.
Republicans might recover their senses in time and realize that with Hillary on the ballot for the Democrats (most likely) it is no time to experiment with Americas tolerance and see if a Mormon can be elected president.
That is the nut of the problem. Romney loses at least 3% (and maybe more) of the evangelical vote right off the top. Mitt can win the nomination, but not the general.
You can call those of us in that 3% bigots and whatever names you want, but we just arent going to pull that lever.
Every Republican nominee has won Iowa or New Hampshire or both since 1968. So, what Giuliani is trying hasn't been done before.
“If anyone but a conservative is nominated, and that means if anyone other than Fred or Duncan is nominated, then the republicans will lose the 2008 WH vote, no matter who the Dems run as a candidate.
It is time for the RNC to start to realize that and to go back to strong conservative values in a candidate instead of backing Rinos such as Rudy and Mitt.”
That would be my take on it as well. That 3% - 5% that stay home will kill the deal.
So, when Hillary gets elected, institutes national health care, makes private doctors illegal, all but near eliminates the 2nd amendment, gives illegal aliens amnesty, and does all that she can to make home schooling illegal.
When the Democrats have done all they can to eliminate religion from public life, and made sure that they have complete control of your life from cradle to grave, tell me, are you still going to be able to look in the mirror?
Yes.
“When the Democrats have done all they can to eliminate religion from public life, and made sure that they have complete control of your life from cradle to grave, tell me, are you still going to be able to look in the mirror?”
A Hillary presidency would implode a la Elliot Spitzer. A RINO candidate just makes us a frog in a slow boiling pot.
Another reason Mitt is THE ONE who can beat Hillary.
