From Rush April 7th:

RUSH: But let's go back. This is not a first. Shall we go back to March 30th, 1993, from my Television Show, I played this sound bite from October 15th of 1992. This was the presidential debate, Perot, Clinton and Bush 41 in Richmond, Virginia.

THE PONYTAILED GUY: The focus of my work is domestic mediation, is meeting the needs of the children that I work with by way of their parents and not the wants of their parents, and I ask the three of you, how can we as symbolically the children of the future president expect the two of you, the three of you to meet our needs?

RUSH: That's the famous Ponytail Guy from the Richmond debate in 1992. These presidential candidates are our fathers, the president's going to be our father, and what can we expect from our father, you, to meet our needs?

I remember that moment very well -- I think it was THE seminal moment in our recent political history. A pure, lobbed softball to Bush, who blew it bigtime.

He should have answered the guy, "Look -- I'm not your father. I'm not running for the position of your father. I'm running for President. Stop looking at government as your parent. Grow up and stand on your own two feet."

Just imagine for a moment this historical counterfactual -- Bush gives my answer, floors this clown, jumps 30 pts. overnight and goes on to win re-election. No Clinton, then or now. Probably no 9-11. A different world.

As it is, because this moron was NOT laughed out of town for his idiotic question, the idea that government is your parent has taken root. And if the Democrats win in '08, it'll become more than just a silly idea -- it'll become an implemented silly idea.

The office of President was always supposed to be an accommodation of our more monarchist heritage, but it’s gotten ridiculous.
