REPORTS: PUBLISHER JUDITH REGAN TO FILE $100 MILLION SUIT AGANIST MURDOCH EMPIRE IN NY COURT; WILL BE REPPED BY SUPERLAWYER BERT FIELDS... DEVELOPING...
Just a header on Drudge right now..
Regan grew up on Long Island, and graduated from Bay Shore High School in 1971.[1] She then attended Vassar College, receiving her A.B. degree in 1975. Then in 1978, while working as a secretary at Harvard, Regan answered a newspaper ad for a reporter for The National Enquirer and got the job. In the early 1980s, Regan relocated to New York City.
After the 911 attacks in 2001, Regan published a "sensational memoir" by New York police chief Bernard Kerik and began sleeping with him. They apparently used an apartment that had been donated to the city for use by emergency workers at ground zero, but which Kerik kept for himself.[2] At the time, Kerik had another mistress, Jeannette Pinero a married NYC Dept. Of Corrections officer,[3] and Regan cut off the relationship after discovering that his wife was pregnant as well.[4] Thereafter, she told friends that he had begun to harass her, and that she hired a bodyguard for protection. Kerik's lawyer denied the harassment claim.[5]
Regan has been at the center of many controversies. Her in-your-face personality keeps her a favorite of NYC gossip columnists.
Didn’t she used to have a show on Fox?
Should I know who she is? If so, why?
She used to have that show on Fox. And she published Rush Limabugh’s books. And other books.
Diva got owned... would be funny if she doesn't win a penny from Fox.
Limbaugh’s first publisher.
Oh I hope she doesn’t get a penny.
I hope she gets sued and ends up losing her own cash.
As the article mentions, she was a mistress of Bernard Kerik, Rudy Giuliani's friend and business partner, whom Dubya tried to nominate for head of Homeland Security after 9/11 a gross misstep, since Kerik has many troublesome issues in his past, including keeping two mistresses while married and reputed mob ties, as well as strong-arm tactics in the discharge of his professional duties.
Additionally, Judith Regan was the editor who developed the now-suppressed memoir from OJ Simpson, in which he explains how he would have killed his wife Nicole and her lover, "if" he had done it. The manuscript caused an uproar and a threatened lawsuit from Nicole Simpson's family.
I think she also published Howard Stern’s book that was made into Private Parts, the movie.
Regan Filing $100M Suit Against HarperCollins
Judith Regan wants her day in court.
I just spoke with celebrity litigator Bert Fields, who told me that the former publishing powerhouse will file suit today against HarperCollins, CEO Jane Friedman, and parent News Corp. Regan is seeking damages of $100 million for injuries including libel and breach of contract.
Attorney Brian Kerr, of New York law firm Dreier LLP, is handling the suit. (Gawker reported earlier, but incorrectly, that Milberg Weiss was representing Regan.) Fields says Regan is still his client, however: “It’s a New York lawsuit, so I would always work with a New York firm. In this instance, it’s being handled on a contingent basis so that Judith doesn’t have to worry about being outspent by News Corp.”
The basis of her suit, says Fields, are the reports that Regan used an ethnic slur during a telephone call while still employed by HarperCollins. “The dispute is the same dispute that existed some months ago: This bogus claim that Judith used an anti-Semitic remark, which she did not. We have a witness who heard the conversation who said she didn’t.”
A HarperCollins spokeswoman said the company had yet to be served with papers, and thus had no comment. And I left messages for Kerr but haven’t heard back yet.
Here’s a New York Times story from January, when Regan first threatened to sue.
Oh pleaseee she just got busted because she going publish ORENTHAL blood money book that reason why
PMSNBC was claiming today that she has tapes of Fox executives asking her to keep it quiet because it might hurt Giliani.
If half of what she says is true, I’d say they have trouble.
I see a settlement—quick and quiet.
Here is the complaint:
