I hope this is nothing serious, but that’s one of the ways Aum was planning to disperse sarin in the subway (they chose a more expedient method as police were getting close).

It certainly is worthy of investigation and keeping people safe!

What an incredibly stupid story. Apparently, the “journalist” never heard that s news story should contain a “who”, “what”, “where”, “when”, and “why”.

Update:

PHOENIX (AP) - A smoking suitcase was spotted Tuesday in the cargo area at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, but did not contain explosives, airport officials said.

A baggage handler was loading bags on a US Airways plane about 10 a.m. when he noticed that one suitcase was hot and set it aside, according to a statement released by Sky Harbor authorities. The fire department was called when the bag began to smoke.

No details are available, except that the incident was in no way related to terrorist activities.

A suitcase that smokes? I wonder if it was driven there by a killer SUV?

Obviously, this incident supports the theory of global warming, as all incidents do.

If it wasn’t so damn hot on that tarmac the suitcase never would’ve started smoking. Or maybe the suitcase was just stressed, just sayin.

Sounds like a case of toiletries leaking and reacting with each other.

“A fire department spokesman says when the bomb squad arrived, everything was melted in the bag. He said the contents of the suitcase included hairspray and other toiletries.”

It probably wouldn’t have been as intense a fire as the one on the plane leaving Miami that crashed into the Everglades when fire erupted in the cargo hold, but a fire anywhere on an airplane in flight is a great concern. I’m not sure they are even now required to have fire detection systems in the cargo areas. Perhaps someone around here will know if that change was made after the Florida crash.
