Classic lawyer line from the article:
“Raymond Cassar, Letkemann’s attorney, urged the public not to rush to judgment.”

In some states, you can get a "sex offender" label for the rest of your life if you get caught taking a leak behind a dumpster in an alley, or in the bushes on a golf course, even if nobody saw you and it had no sexual connotations whatsoever.

I think that these kids need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for coldly murdering a registered sex offender.
Justice would be well served if they were sentenced to, say, rake the leaves in my backyard.

Evidently, when he was 17 he had sex with a 14 year old.

There should be degrees of sex offenders. There’s quite a difference between raping an infant and an 18 year-old having consensual sex with a 15 year-old.

1 dead, 5 lives essentially over, many families destroyed and another town left to wonder how and why for a many years to come.
Or just another 60 minutes of prime time TV.

From the article:
Sorenson was convicted in Tazewell County, Ill., when he was 17 of having sex with a 14-year-old girl, said Northville Township police Lt. Greg Rhodes. His troubled past had nothing to do with the murder, Worthy said.
Terrible headline. This man was brutally murdered and all the media can say about him is that he was a "sex offender".

Original thread here Here is his entry in Illinois: link
The crime is listed as "CRIMINAL SEXUAL ABUSE/VIC 13-17". Doesn't say when it occurred.

"A crime like this surprises us all," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said at a press conference. "Any time anyone kills just because they want to and that's what the evidence seems to suggest here is bone-chilling. Why anybody would want to do that, especially being 17 years old, it makes us think and ask a lot of questions about our society." Well if ya have to ask... !? Sheesh, what a maroon.

You wouldn’t know it by the headline. Apparently FOX news wants us to think the victim was a rapist or pedophile who got what was coming to him.

He was killed when he was 26. He ad sex with a 14 year-old girl when he was 17. You can figure the math. That was nine years ago. I’d be interested in knowing if it was consensual. Makes a big difference in my mind. If consensual, I would have never voted guilty.

"They made plans on how they were to clean up the blood," Worthy said. "They made plans on how they were going to dispose of the body. No matter how malicious we all think it may be, it was very thought out and very methodical." Since we all know that children like this are creatures of impulse who have not fully formed their value systems, a week or two of probation should get this off their records and give them a chance to start fresh.

A 17 year old should not be killed for diddling a young lady three short years his junior. This is assuming the lady was out seeking fun and adventure.
Those who would chop his head off for a cheap thrill, should never have a second of freedom for the rest of their miserably little lives.
