WASHINGTON Mayor Giuliani's hold on the front-runner's perch in the Republican presidential nomination is eroding, with two new polls showing that Mitt Romney is opening up a widening lead in New Hampshire, site of the first primary.
While Mr. Giuliani has maintained his lead in national polls and in several state surveys, the former Massachusetts governor is now comfortably ahead in both Iowa and New Hampshire, two hotly contested early-voting states that have traditionally played a crucial role in determining the Republican nominee.
Mr. Romney opened up a 12-point lead over Mr. Giuliani in New Hampshire, 32% to 20%, in a Boston Globe/University of New Hampshire poll released yesterday. He leads in the state by 11 points in the latest Marist College poll, also released yesterday. Senator McCain of Arizona, who in an appearance yesterday on "Fox News Sunday" guaranteed a Granite State victory, is running third in both surveys.
The polls indicate that Mr. Romney has solidified his advantage and perhaps shifted the dynamic of the Republican race, after several surveys in September suggested Mr. Giuliani had closed the gap in New Hampshire. Mr. Romney has held a consistent double-digit lead since the summer in Iowa, where voters will cast the first presidential ballots in a caucus on January 3.

” Rudys dad spent time in the Federal Pen for being a Mafia hit man. His uncle was even higher up...”
Is there a surgeon in the House—to wire my lower jaw back on ?...It just fell off....
“As mayor he got the mob out of the garbage collection business, and he got them out of the biggest wholesale fish market in America. He also tried to get them out of the construction business, but was stopped by the city council.”#94
That’s true about Rudy- he just about broke the Mob in NYC. He broke up the mob’s rule over the garbage disposal business, and ended the mob’s control of the Fulton Fish Market- one of the largest fish markets in the US, but he was stymied when he tried to get shut down a construction company and get the mob out of the construction business.. Seems like he broke the mob’s control over the concrete business in NYC too- the mob got so many $ for every square yard of concrete poured in NYC.. Think of the profits they made just off that !...even more meaningful was that he made the streets safe again in NYC..and the citty was even cleaner...but then he left and probably it’s back to business as usual...but i still wouldn’t vote for him...
That's a correct statement.
There are certain, shall we say agreements and protocols that have been adhered to since the 1940's.
The major one's are: No whacking honest cops, DA's or messing with their families'.
No planting dope or guns on LCN members just to get a conviction.
No contact with LCN's wife, unless she is hiding from hubby or has been the victim of domestic violence.
Ex-wives - girlfriends -ticked off mistresses are fair game of course.
A minor protocol is no arrest of made guys in front of their family, i.e. blood relatives, not that 'family'.
No screwing with LCN when they are in custody, i.e. allowing other cons to abuse them or shake them down etc. (A certain scene in that movie " American Me" is based on a true incident. LEO were very quick to inform said mobster's father they had nothing to do with it.)
That's just the way the game is played. We now return to the original thread ;^)
It’s fact. Put your face back together.
If you don’t even consider Giuliani’s positions on things, his baggage has always been an issue. If he were to become the nominee, I’d say that would virtually guarantee a Dem win. Sometimes it seems like Rudy supporters (and I know some very well-meaning, smart ones) have blinders on and underestimate this gigantic Achilles heel.
Yeah, we learned that the original plans for fighting this war on the cheap were woefully short-sighted, and the way to win this thing is to send enough men to do the job.
That is a serious danger that potential Thompson or Huckabee voters need to consider... a vote for either is a vote for Rudy. And a vote for Rudy is a vote for Hillary, because the conservative movement is not going to be fired up to vote for Rudy based solely* on promises of potential Supreme Court appointments, these coming from a person who didn't exactly keep promises to his ex-wives...
(*I say "solely" because there is little else about his platform that would attract any conservative)
I don’t think enough voters are paying attention yet for the Kerick stuff to matter.
Rudy's foreign policy rep also pulls the rug out from under all those who are touting Rudy's determination about the WOT.
Since Rudy doesn't want to be unilateral, and since Bush has had a number of nations involved in the coalition against terror, then what in the world are these guys talking about? ONLY one thing I can think of -- they are talking of turning the WOT over to the UN.
That sure gives me a warm, cozy feeling. /sarc.
Therefore, you are exactly right: A man who treats promises to wives as disposable wrapping, it the guy we will believe to appoint "strict constructionist" judges.
Did you see where Rudy in the past said that Scotus Justice Ginsberg is exactly the type of smart, educated, legal mind that he admires?
The definition of "strict constructionist" is in the eye of the beholder. What is the meaning of "is?"
The bottom line: there is now absolutely NOTHING that Rudy offers a conservative. Not the WOT, not the strict constructionist judges.
All the way down nothing but liberal, gun-grabbing, abortionist, doubletalking.
Maybe Vincente Fox. Can you be elected President twice in Mexico?
Oh, come on. Baby Killer/Nanny Stater '08 baby! Get excited, get your checkbook out, clear your calendar:-)
The socon wing of the party will never vote for a baby killer and the libertarian wing won't support a tax raising, smoker banning, nanny stater. The result would be....
Me neither. It just angers me when people make groundless accusations against a man, like calling a mobster a man who did so much and risked so much to break the mob.
I don't want him to be president, either, but he was a great mayor, despite his flaws, one of which was cronyism.
Lots of application of game theory, implicit contracts, and other staples of institutional economics. Absolutely fascinating.
From your lips to Gods ears.
... personal cruelties?
Huck is not a rino everywhere else. that’s what makes him so tricky
So what are voters doing in states where there is significant campaigning? They are not going for Rudy. They seem to be going for Romney. What does that say?
If says the more Rudy and the other candidates campaign the the worse Rudy does with voters.
As the campaign moves on to States other than Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, Rudy's fortunes will continue to fall. Consider this:::
