In a way, LED lamps are why we are seeing this. The Japanese who own the patents on super bright LED’s have refused to keep them off the market. GE has been buying up patents and keeping better light sources off the market at least since the 1960s, when they developed and then shelved radio directed lights. I know an engineer from the project who is still furious after all these decades.

“Why not LED lamps?.......”

Because LED lamps would make too much sense. And really, who ever heard of a liberal who understood anything about science or economics? Really. No I mean it... really.

Why not LED lamps?.......

That wouldn't be any fun. They don't contain any mercury.

LED lamps are not being pushed because the florescent makers want to power protect.

Regular light bulbs give no royalties for tech.

Florescent bulbs have patent royalties.

someone has a better lobbyist.

the environmental movement is all about profit. It makes the oil companies look like mother teresa.

I DETEST fluorescent bulbs in any form.

I will hold out / hold on until LED bulbs are affordable. C.Crane Co. sells LED’s (equivalent to 75-100 watts) for about $60.00 ea.

When the price becomes more competitive, I’ll be near the front of the line.

LED lamps are still too expensive for general use. Their main market right now is for low voltage applications, off the grid, vehicles, boats, in places where power limitations outweigh the much higher cost.

LED lamps are good for point illumination and not so good for diffuse lighting. But LED lighting will become more widespread as the cost comes down.
