After reading your post I have to agree that the Ron Paul phenomenon is providing a good lesson on how to build a grassroots campaign.

Yep, and look how well it worked out for Howie Dean (who, by the way, is a paragon of sound mental health compared to Paul).

Do you understand how powerful the IT department guys from Dean’s campaign, are now in the Democrat party?

David Weinberger and Joe Trippi are making it work, just for saner and wealthier and better paying Democrat and special interest campaigns.

Actually, it did not work out too bad for Howard Dean. The grass roots movement that sprung up around his campaign ended up taking over the structure of the Democratic Party. We need to take a broader, more long term view of winning and losing. Kerry beat Dean in the 2004 primaries, but whose campaign organization had a bigger role in shaping the direction of the Democratic Party past the 2004 elections? Lets take off the blinders of short term electoral victories and consider the possibility of planting the seeds of a long term political movement.
