Desperate American man-via the internet- meets and marries a Russian woman who’s chasing a fantasy. What could go wrong?

I knew a guy who went through this with a woman from Russia. I think she stayed 2 months before heading back. All said and done, the guy is out over 10K.

Their (the women) motivation is understandable, but their naivety is troubling.

Its hard to separate gold diggers from those who really love a man.

The problem is a lot of foreign women think American men are made of money. They watch too much America soap operas, which give them a distorted view of American life.

We all do. A full blown marriage is very expensive too.

I wouldn’t use the word desperate though. Fact is, there are many cultures today, in which gender roles are (much) different than they are in America. Some of those differences, are arguably for the better.

Both participants in this process - hopefully - are simply looking for happiness.

Yep, there were two problems.

1.) The woman was a nurse in Russia. She had to learn English well enough to get certified in America. Didn’t want to.

2.) She had a teenage son that was enrolled in public school in Jackson, MS with a large black population. That did not go over well, from what I understand.

True, And I have heard a lot of women say it's hard to separate the men who are after a little bed time from the real ones that are after a true relationship.

Its best if a couple agree on who does what and how they will have a life together BEFORE one of them comes over to the United States.

It works both ways. A relationship should never be principally about money or sex or it won't last. If you are after what you can get from your partner rather than what you can give to your partner, its not built on true love.

The results tend to be better when you get a bride from Viet Nam or Thailand or Laos. I know several fellows, both Viet emigre and native American (notIndian) who have done that, either through the Internet or by going there for a month and finding a bride. The only match that I know of that is not good turns on the violent nature of the American husband. Even so, the Laotian bride stayed with him and treated him the way a Vietnamese bride treats her husband (very, very well) until she was badly beaten for up the third time and her neighbors convinced her that in America a wife does not have to endure that.

It’s a recipe for diasater.

Insecure men who can’t “tame” women from here have ISSUES.
Purchasing the “mail order bride” equates them to an OBJECT. Some men want this ... no doubt ... but the very reasons WHY they can’t have a relationship with women born here are the very reasons this won’t work out for them with a foreign bride.

It’s not the 50’s. I know of many femi-nazi women that were “tamed” into what the husband wanted. It took time, patience and love. Comtrol freaks are inacapble of “taming” these women and why NO WOMAN HERE wants them either.
