Former President Bush celebrated the grand reopening of his presidential museum today with a surprise skydive.

It was the former president's sixth skydive and his first since 2004, when he jumped to celebrate his 80th birthday.

When Bush jumped today, he was strapped to an expert from the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team, as he did three years ago.

Bush is 83 years old. He had hip replacement surgery in January. He said at the time that he planned to skydive in 2009 for his 85th birthday.

Bush's first parachute jump came in 1944 when he was shot down over the Pacific island of Chi Chi Jima.

The 69,000-square-foot museum has been mostly closed since April for the $8.3 million facelift.

Thanks for the ping and the dose your first as our regular weekend host.

Many thanks to Wolfstar for her contributions over the last few years.

Wolfstar due to personal circumstances is at the this time not able to continue posting the weekend dose, I am sure we will all miss her excellent weekend dose(s) and that we all wish her well for the future.

If you are able to Wolfstar please drop in a visit us occasionally we miss you and would love to see you even if you can only drop in ocassionally.

Starwise we look forward to your doses which we all know will be great as we are all familiar with your great posts and once again thank you so much for volunteering to do this labour of love which we all know and appreciate takes a big chunk of our time to do.

Thanks for today's dose. The classic set is priceless.

My linking skills are nil but John Hawkins at Townhall has a list today of 'The 25 Most Influential People on the Right' and he puts President Bush up there where he belongs at #1. It's a more satisfying list than the UK Telegraph tome that was published last week.
