I am a college dropout and earned that in the 90s as a programmer. I know lots of other people in the same boat. The most hard core UNIX internals programmer I know - and I know a few - has an Associates - in a totally unrelated subject.

I disagree. I have met plenty with the paper who are incompetent, and many without who are self-taught geniuses. Also PH.d’s with science, not engineering degrees, who can out-engineer many engineers, and engineers who could out-science many PH.d.

That is one of the most boneheaded comments I have ever heard. Truckers work very hard and earn what they make. And the US has many more safetey regulations that Mexico. Keep that in mind before you make such ridiculous comments.
