Having been forced to read some of his turgid nonsense in high school, I can only say I really couldn’t care much less.

Wasn’t he a Timothy McVee supporter? Before Mc Vee was killed?

He was a crusty old feller. He provided great commentary about the Ali-Foreman fight in “ When we were kings.” I remember seeing black & white footage of him from the 60s when he tried running for mayor of New York: he was drunk, and had a cup of something in his hand, and whatever he said, it was quite entertaining.

I guess Charlie Rose will rerun some of his final interviews they did together, this coming week.

He was a passable writer, but was a phenomenal shill for the left and that was why he was elevated to such 'godlike' status in the literary world. Never enjoyed his work, but man was I forced to choke it down in grad school. From all accounts, Mailer sounded like such an angry, wretched venemous person.

Still, someone who loved him is probably hurting right now, so my prayers are with them.

Mailer DID support Timothy McVeigh.

I remember now (that I have had a cup of coffee).

They were pen pals and Norman Mailer was doing interviews all over TV in the days before McVeigh’s execution. Mailer said that he and McVeigh were close friends.

The leftists are in mourning for this scum.

DFU SONG: Norman (Norman Mailer, you suck) 9-6-02
DFU SONG PARODIES | 9-2002 | Lyrics, Doug from Upland

Posted on 09/06/2002 6:45:42 PM PDT by doug from upland

MIDI - NORMAN

He hates this nation, there is little doubt
Just watch him pout…he's burned out
I see his face and then I think of trout
That's Norman Mailer

Yes, he is a guy who's had six wives
They must have all had such hellish lives
There remains a question about Adele
Why did he stab her, oh, do tell

Norman, why are you unpatriotic
Norman, you are truly idiotic
Norman, Norman, you suck

He's getting thirsty and he needs some booze
It's rum he'll choose…then he'll snooze
He has his fill and throws up on his shoes
That's Norman Mailer

Yes, he is a guy who's had six wives
They must have all had such hellish lives
There remains a question about Adele
Why did he stab her, oh, do tell

Norman, why are you unpatriotic
Norman, you are truly idiotic
Norman, Norman, you suck

Even “The Simpsons” got in a shot at Mailer. I remember one episode where Lisa — normally the liberal intellectual — complained that she couldn’t stand to read one more line of Mailer “waxing nostalgic about his waning libido.” That about sums him up for me.

In my opinion, his best work was when he made a cameo appearance on “The Gilmore Girls”.
