AUSTIN — An ultra low-cost air carrier Monday announced it will begin service out of Austin Bergstrom International Airport and hopes to attract passengers with its price -- starting at $9.99.

The U.S. Department of Transportation granted Mexico's vivaAerobus the right to fly out of ABIA Monday afternoon. The carrier will fly nonstop to Cancun, Guadalajara, León, Monterrey, Puebla, and Queretaro.

The airline is no frills, and it will have a new terminal that will have no jet bridges, sophisticated baggage handling, gates or ticket counters.

If they do one way trips for 10 bucks I will gladly send money as long as they don’t bring them back. I don’t care how they fly them back just do it. Drop them mid air I don’t care.

And the planes only land in the US. They just do a flyover in Mexico at about 2000 feet.

Well, time for an old texas airplane joke.... a Frenchman, an Englishman, A Texan and a Mexican are on a flight, the plane develops engine problems and there’s only one parachute.

The Frenchman gets up and says he will sacrifice his life for the good of the passengers. He opens the door, shouts “Viva la France!” and jumps out.

The Englishman, not one to be outdone by a Frenchman, gets up, opens the door, shouts “God save the queen!” and jumps out.

I think we could consider modeling a sponsor-supported deportation program for the holidays after the Christmas Angel trees that will be popping up all over the U.S. in our malls. Pick an illegal off the tree, pay for the seat, have it assigned, and a ticket will pop out of the airline machine. Home in time for Christmas.
