President George W Bush has paid an emotional visit to soldiers maimed or badly burned in combat. His visit came as senior British military figures said the Armed Forces were 'paying the price in blood' for years of underfunding.
During the President's visit to the new £30.7million Brooke Army Medical Centre for veterans Mr Bush vowed to modernize the military care system. "We have an outdated system that can bog down some of those recovering in a maze of bureaucracy," he said.
"It's unacceptable to me as the commander in chief, it's unacceptable to the families of those who deserve the best care and it's unacceptable to the American people."

Pictures at link are also inspiring to look at - God bless them all!
(correction) - Ditto. God bless each of them and their families. God bless our CinC. One hell of a man, this nation will miss more than it understands once he is out of office.
In spite of the need to modernize the military care system, the Doctors and medical knowledge and equipment have done a great job with these guys.
What ever more can be done for these Brave Heroes who have sacrificed to keep our Country safe let’s do it.
that takes guts.
A veteran once said that the real heroes never made it back. Beyond the ones who sacrificed it all, the ones who were disfigured or maimed need to make heroic efforts to lead normal lives after they come home. I salute them.
I guess you thought that was necessary
There’s a mildly interesting juxtaposition of the article’s comments that President Bush should be ashamed for meeting these brave folks with the obvious appreciation of those in the photos that the President would come to visit them.
May God Bless and keep Our President and all our wonderful warriors and all those wonderful families.
uh yes...I did.
Then I see these pictures, with these brave men whose lives from now on are altered. Who knows what they will never do because of their sacrifices? On the other hand, they show such will to move forward, and look at their smiles--and look at BUSH'S smile when meeting the men he sent into battle.
I have my disagreements with him, but I bristle when people at FR so freely trash this man, a flawed man who's made mistakes, yet who has kept his eye on the ball in the most difficult time in this nation in my lifetime.
We can disagree on certain policies... but I still love President Bush... and so do most of the Americans actually doing ALL of the fighting.

There's a new movie out, "No End in Sight", which I've been reading about, since it talks to many soldiers about the Iraq situation. The thing that bugs me isn't that the documentary maker found soldiers who are unhappy with the war, but that as with Michael Moore, he's only spoken to those who agree with his point of view. It's not a documentary about troop opinion, it's a collection of opinions that reflect the filmmaker's. I'd be more interested in a larger cross-section, not just a piece of leftist propaganda, because I feel the soldiers aren't being heard from.
Yesterday in the supermarket I walked past the magazine stand, and saw politicians, sports figures, models and actors on the covers. Not one soldier. I didn't feel the slightest twinge to pick up any of those magazines, but one with a soldier on the cover and "What the troops think" across it? THAT I'd buy. Who cares about some pretty boy actor whose the ten zillionth person to "take on Hollywood"?
You write what is in my heart also.

Agree totally. Have had a suspicion this would be the case right from 2000.
Those guys that got blown up, burned up and shot at in war should get State Department jobs. Every last one of them. Fire the loafers that are skimming there and complaining. All of them.
Just to add to this picture because of the perhaps slightly misleading title.
I don’t know if Brown has visited any wounded soldiers, but contrary to public perception, Tony Blair DID visit wounded soldiers but did not make it public.
