Tom DeLay Says Clinton Will Win Unless GOP Gets Its Act Together

Friday , November 09, 2007

AP

OXFORD, England — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will capture the presidency in 2008 unless the Republican Party can rise to meet the challenge, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said Thursday.

DeLay, once a pillar of the Republican establishment and still a fierce Clinton opponent, said the New York senator had the intelligence and organization to beat her Democratic rivals — and her Republican opponents.

"Don't kid yourself. She will be the next nominee, and if Republicans don't get their act together — and it is pitiful — she will be the next president," he told a crowd of Britons and Americans at the Oxford Union, a 184-year-old debating society.

DeLay, who resigned from Congress in 2006 amid legal and ethical problems, was in Oxford to debate the merits of a Democratic victory in 2008.

"She has, over the last six years, put together the most powerful political coalition I have ever witnessed in my career," he said. "It's not a left-wing conspiracy, ladies and gentlemen, it's a smart, very impressive political coalition."

DeLay warned that a Clinton victory would result in higher taxes and bloated government. He also said she would seek to create a British-style publicly funded health care system, a prediction that was met with thunderous applause.

I'd hold off the predictions of Hillary inevitability. The MSM anointed Howard Dean as the presidential pick in 2003 and he crashed and burned in the Hawkeye Cauci. Not a single vote has yet been cast.

"By the way, there's no one denied health care in America. There are 47 million people who don't have health insurance, but no American is denied health care in America," he said to derisive laughter.

I guess the Brits think they have the best healthcare money can buy.

Tom, we're going through the same political process we always do prior to the primaries and caucuses. What to you want us to do, caste off the process and join Rudy?

Foget aboud it bud. Ain't gonna happen.

I kind of doubt he'd support Rudy, but then he may.

A little too early for this isn't it? If there’s multiple conservative runners going into the general election, then there is a problem. Until then stand behind your favorite. Failure to observe the process of elimination can be a fatal weakness.

“A little too early for this isn’t it?”

Normally I’d agree with that, but since it’s clear the MSM’s choice is Hillary, best to send out warnings now before it’s too late.

What will put Hillary back in the White House is if some Republicans stay home from the polls because their nominee isn’t 100% in agreement with their ideals on issues such as abortion. For example, while Rudy Guliani doesn’t have a good pro life track record it would be infinitely better for the pro life cause to have him as President rather than Hillary. I agree with DeLay...if Republicans bicker over the details of their candidate than Hillary will be elected.

What will put Hillary back in the White House is if some Republicans stay home from the polls because RINOs have taken over the party. If you want to get those stay homers to vote give them someone they can vote for.

Delay probably thinks the pubs need to increase pork projects.

I could not agree more with Tom, the GOP needs to get its act together without Delay.
