U.S. Deports Liberian Man at Center of Interpreter Case

ROCKVILLE, Md. - Montgomery County State's Attorney John McCarthy says a Liberian immigrant whose sexual abuse case was dismissed when he didn't get a speedy trial has now been deported. Mahamu Kanneh, 23, of Rockville was charged in 2004 with the rape of a 7-year-old girl. The trial was postponed several times because court officials could not find an interpreter fluent in his dialect. The charges were dismissed this summer when a judge ruled his right to a speedy trial had been violated. Deportation proceedings began soon after the dismissal was reported. Prosecutors filed an appeal to reinstate... rape charges, but McCarthy said they haven't decided whether to drop the appeal.

I am waiting for a longer version of this story. The Wash Post buried it. I think what happened is they revoked his refugee status, which was dubious to begin with, and ordered him deported, but he's still here. Now way to tell, exactly, because this was the only report I could find.
