Gail Collins: Rudy Was 'Busy Committing Adultery'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 11/08/2007 4:16:12 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Over the course of his political career, Bill Clinton was literally and figuratively embraced by countless pastors, most of whom presumably went to their pulpits on Sunday to preach traditional values, including marital fidelity. If memory serves, neither Gail Collins nor other liberal pundits noted any irony in people of the cloth endorsing the spectacularly straying Clinton.

But let a preacher praise a Republican with a personal history, and Gail Collins thunders like Billy Sunday with a bad migraine. Here's the opening paragraph of her "Pat Loves Rudy" in today's New York Times [emphasis added]:

"Back in mid-2001, when Mayor Rudy Giuliani was busy committing adultery, lurching into his divorce and third marriage and rooming with a gay couple he promised to marry as soon as the law allowed, who among us would have imagined that one day he would be endorsed for president by Pat Robertson?"

She’s the former editor of the NY Times op-ed page. She’s now a regular columnist.

It’s hard to argue with the facts. Robertson endorsed an apostate Catholic with more than his share of failings. Will Robertson’s endorsement swing votes? Not mine.

And maybe you're smoking opium.

And why do you think the Republicans lost control of the Congress? Was it really because Democrats were a better choice?

Of course not. The reason we lost control is that the distinction between the two parties have become so blurred that it didn't really make a difference who one voted for.

Bush II, more so than his unqualified father, has done more to blend Republicans and Democrats into one homogeneous blob, thus forcing true conservatives out. All this from the man who wants to remove the border lines between the North American countries.

At least Hillary would give us back the Congress where we can hopefully get back to true reform.

I may be smoking opium but it's clear where your head is...right up Bush's bum.

The number of judges on th Supreme Court is not set in the Constitution. If the dims get control of 2 branches, they can change the court, too.

I've been a consistent critic of Bush for many years. But to equate Hillary with Bush is, come to think of it, the confession of an opium eater.

A vote for Rudy in the primaries is a vote for Mrs. Bill Clinton in the general.

Agreed. But try telling that to the die hard Republican sychophants who believe that having the White House is some sort of utopia where everything turns "conservative."

I'd much rather have control of Congress than the White House because that's where the real work of reform is done.

After 9/11 the NYT had a piece describing Giuliani being kissed goodbye by one of his gay roommates the morning the reporter visited them. Just gross!

All you have to do is imagine how many hours Rudy spent with those fags, sympathetically chatting it up over hundreds of drinks and dinners, to realize that he would NEVER oppose "gay rights" or preferences in any shape or form as president. It really makes the Robertson endorsement all the more grotesque.

Try to stay on the same page as the posted article, and not wander back into your own head. It makes it more interesting for the rest of us.

Out of all the responses to my posting on this thread thus far, yours is the only one to demonstrate an unfortunate inability to read for simple comprehension.

Congratulations. I guess.

3rd Party = President Hillary Clinton

President Giuliani = Mandatory Homosexual Indoctrination in every public school (and mandates for homeschoolers as well)

And who do we have to blame for the strong possibility that the Demoncrats will take control of two branches?

The so-called "conservatives" who are more interested in sitting in the Oval Office than doing something while there.

I'm not ready to write off the White House, but I think we should focus on winning back and expanding control over Congress.

The posted article was taking on a liberal who suddenly "saw the light" regarding adultery. You immediately launched into an attack on Giuliani. I am not defending Giuliani, I am laughing at the propensity of many on this site to post their pet peeve, regardless of whether or not its related to the actual subject matter of the posted article.

Funny. Ha ha. You is.

Republican donations fell off the map during the Amnesty Fiasco. And where the heck you get “The Army is for illegal immigration” I have no idea. Certainly the members I’ve served with have generally been opposed.

Maybe that's not so bad a thing.

It's an INSANE thing. Hillary is unqualified to be president. And she simply does not care about what America is all about. She has made it very clear she does not believe that people have any rights other than the ones she agrees they should have. And that they do not have any property rights at all. She intends to STEAL money from you and GIVE it to others. She is a raging insane and not very bright SOCIALIST.

Little people with little minds who think they have all the answers and the ONLY answers are very dangerous when allowed to have power.

Hillary is the "classic" abused women that's pissed off and wants to get even with her "husband". She has been in a sham marriage for years. She has been spit at, stepped on and generally abused by her loon of a "husband". She has stayed with her husband for one reason and one reason only. To GET THE POWER to not be pushed around by Bill anymore. Mark my words, she will get her payback and as a man hater she will make all males (except gay ones) pay.

Hillary Clinton has shown she is as mentally sick as her husband. The Clinton's need to be finally removed from being anywhere near elected office.

Nothing personal but you are saying something frightening when you say having Hillary in office may not be a bad thing.

You know, you're really going to feel righteously embarrassed later, once you've sobered up, or caught up on your zzz's, or the stick up your butt finally snaps off, or whatever occurrence/impetus is that's causing you to gibber in public like this finally rights itself.

Seriously. Take five minutes. Breathe.

It's okay not to post something, if you don't actually have anything intelligent to say. Really.

Remember when the Packers’ Mike Holmgren intentionally let the Denver Broncos score under the dubious theory that it would be better to get the ball back than to keep Denver from scoring? Result: The game ended before Holmgren’s delusional strategy came to fruition and the Packers lost the Super Bowl!

What worse could Hillary do?

Appoint 2-3 SCOTUS justices like Ginsburg that will take any serious reform of abortion, gay rights, or other social conservative issues off the radar screen for at least a generation, if not longer. Nationalize health care giving us a Canadian system. Marginal tax rates over 50%.
