US Eyes Iraq Oil: Blix
IslamOnline.net & ABC Radio National ^ | Wed. Nov. 7, 2007 | staff

SYDNEY — Former chief UN weapons inspector Hans Blix, here to receive the Sydney Peace Prize, believes the US plans to stay long in Iraq to guarantee the flow of oil supplies and to keep a close eye on neighboring Iran.

"One fear I would have is that the US has a hidden thought to remain in Iraq," Blix told the Australian radio.

"One reason why they wanted in was that they felt they must leave Saudi Arabia. After the Gulf War in 1991, they left their troops in Saudi Arabia to protect pipelines,". "And when they felt they could no longer stay in Saudi Arabia, Iraq was the next best place because it was more secularized than Saudi Arabia and had the second biggest oil reserves in the region."

Blix has said that the West's neo-colonial approach in dealing with Iran is humiliating and unfruitful, insisting Tehran should be given reasonable incentives to halt its nuclear program.

Blix, who led UN weapons inspection in Iraq before the 2003 invasion, described the Iraq war as a disaster.

"The aims of the war were, first of all, to eliminate weapons of mass destruction that did not exist; secondly, to establish a democracy -- and what they ended up with was anarchy; and thirdly, they wanted to weed out Al-Qaeda, which were not there but which came there," he told The Australian newspaper.

"What it goes to show is that although tyranny is horrible, anarchy can be even worse than tyranny."

Iraq - next best place? Compared to Hell? Suuuuure, we needed a new sandbox full of IED's and no Jimmy Dean Sausages.

He's right about us being asked to leave the "holy soil" of Saudi Arabia after we liberated Kuwait and saved the Saudis from Saddam.

He then labels all of Iraq as anarchy and says that it's worse than Saddam's tyranny.

Well Hans, ignorance is Blix. When you and your families and countrymen ever have the weight of the world's future on your backs and have to shed your blood and the blood of your children to keep this world from vaporizing itself, you will know the courage it takes to be an American.

So go collect your peace prizes and we'll go out and earn them without a lot of loose talk.

The headline is meant (in my view) to raise an inference that the US means to TAKE the oil. All that Blix said is that the US may stay (longer) to ensure the oil’s free-market flow. That’s a huge difference from “eyeing the oil [covetously, hoping to grab it for ourselves].”

There's all you need to know about Blix in a nutshell. Forget the birthing pains of democracy, oppression, rape rooms, industrial paper shredders, CHEMICAL GASSING OF A COUNTRY'S PEOPLE - all better than giving the Iraqi people a chance at freedom. What a miserable piece of garbage.

I guess we could have just done what the Swedes did in WWII. Stay out of it and keep selling stuff to the Nazis.

Islam online is nowhere near the level of journalistic competency of Aljazeera.

Yes.

We have US Marines stationed around the Saudi oil fields we declared belong to us during the buildup to desert storm, which was a pretext to get to the oil fields there.

We have US Marines stationed in Kuwait around the Kuwait oil fields we declared belong to us after we kicked Saddam out of them after we lured him into attacking Kuwait just so we could grab the oil fields.

Hans Blix could not find his nose with his left hand if he tried.

This sounds good to me. We should take some of the oil from Iraq for ourselves and then bomb Iran.

Agreed, why does the world give any peace prizes as a reward for appeasement and disengagement? Why can't they tell the difference between lasting peace and temporary peacefulness?

Do the Blixs and Jimmah Carters, secretly have a shrine to Neville Chamberlain that they worship?

Yes, doesn’t most of Iraq’s oil go to Europe? So, we’re bleedin’ for Blix and his homeland?

Hmmmm, he is staying. Wonder what kind of commission he gets for oil-food kickbacks.
