Taxpayers foot bill for Mexican truckers

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced that U.S. taxpayers will be footing the startup costs of a program to install satellite tracking technology on vehicles taking part in the Mexican Truck Demonstration Program.

The announcement confirmed the U.S. government would "initially spend approximately $367,000 to outfit all trucks from the United States and Mexico that take part in the program."

According to the administration, "the decision to require the installation of satellite tracking technology on trucks in the program was made after members of Congress expressed a desire to know whether participants are complying with federal safety and trade laws."

A key opponent of the program, and author of the language in the transportation appropriations bill to halt funding of the program, continued to express disappointment Barry Piatt, spokesman for Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., told WND, "It's an indication that they are going forward with the program, despite strong and pretty clear opposition from both chambers of Congress."

Congressman Duncan Hunter's office told WND he agrees. "The tracking technology, while a step in the right direction, does very little to ensure compliance with safety and security standards. The focus must remain on implementing reliable and enforceable standards that ensure Mexican truckers with access to U.S. roadways do not threaten the safety of vehicle motorists or America's security," explained Joe Kasper, spokesman for Hunter, R-Calif.

According to the FMCSA, the technology will help continue to ensure that trucks operating as part of the program are complying with the agency's rigorous safety standards and U.S. trade laws.

Come on now, spending a little on allowing Mexican trucks to drive in the U.S. is still a cheap way to destroy the teamsters union.

Has anybody read, heard, seen anything about the missing 9 truck operators from the California I-5 tunnel accident? I haven’t. There is much suspicion they were illegals.

What they need to do is put tracking devises on the driver and the passengers that will be smuggled in.

GB has given the country away.

“There is much suspicion they were illegals.”

That’s what I thought right off the bat. *Legal* citizens do not abandon their vehicles after an accident.

Chances are we’ll never hear the truth.

Why are trucks from a practically rogue nation, Mexico, traversing our Highways????

Because the so call ‘fiscal conservatives’ on Wall Street and elsewhere would just as soon see poison toys, slave labor Mexicans flooding into our once sovereign nation, and waves of potential terrorist Muslims becoming owners of all the nations 7-11’s, Dunkin’ Donuts and every last gas station.

was it Marx who said that when the last capitalist is hanged, he will have sold the Bolsheviks the rope?

Bush is a major part of this whole Globalist Cabal!!!!!

Our current form of Representative government is soooo super.

Ignoramuses with their hands out vote for collectivist while Political Party whores vote their party or bust plus the fact our representatives shield themselves from plans only until after they are elected (Friendly treaties are ok, treaties that are one sided are not).

Add to this the mass media outlets/big business crying out for Big Government and you get some kind of neo-fascist la-la land. Don’t forget, a huge splash of ‘Political Correctness’ over the masses since we must all be conformed to group think in the public sphere.

On topic those 20 something corrupt families that control Mexico should pay for this. Pres. Bush should just send the FMCSA requirements, that is all and tell Mexico that if you don’t follow them we will fine your ass.

They may indeed have been illegals, but it is not likely the trucks were part of this program.

More proof positive that the US is sliding towards turd-world status. And now we’re paying to grease the skids.

Disgusting.

Because your tax money is being used to install GPS devices on trucks? Nothing wrong with opposing this program, but it is nowhere near the “proof positive” you claim.

Maybe this will be among the questions asked at the next media sponsored political debate. What will Rudy/Romney/Thompson and McCain/Huckabee say about this plan? We already know Hillry agrees with the illegal invasion strapped to the backs of US citizens.

I agree with you. Lack of reporting means cover-up. And don’t tell me that Republicans never cover up.

They were probably illegal aliens driving or Mexican trucks with Mexican Nationals driving. We need a good investigative reporter on this.

“...but it is not likely the trucks were part of this program.”

Wasn’t saying they were part of this program, just that the article reminded me of the incident and the silence on the matter, and thought it an opportunity to ask the question if anybody had information.

By the way wondering if those satellite onboard tracking systems are defeatable, and what, if anything can be done to prevent any OOPS’s happening?

If they are defeatable, I’m sure the Teamsters have figured out how by now.

With all the scrutiny this program is under, it is simply not believable that there is a “cover up” of some sort. Think about it, you are practically panting over the possibility . . . you don’t think others are also?
