A Thibodaux, Louisiana police officer has been fired for hanging a noose from the rear-view mirror of his personal car.
A group of black police officers went to the chief of police after noticing the display.
Corporal Michael Rodrigue had the vehicle parked on city property.
"They're hurt by it. You know, what could he possibly be representing to put something like this up?" Chief Craig Melancon said.
Rodrigue originally was suspended with pay.
His termination came, Melancon said, after the officer couldn't come up with a reasonable explanation for the noose.
"I to this day do not know what that noose meant to him as an individual," Melancon said.
Neither Rodrigue nor his family would comment about the incident, other than to say they're planning to hire an attorney.
Rodrigue has 15 days from the date he was terminated to file an appeal with the local civil service board.
Boudreaux and Thibodaux never learn.
Maybe his ancestors were cowboys???
“They’re hurt by it.”
Feelings hurt and a man loses his job.
This poor guy is terminated when they admit they, 'do not know what that noose meant'. What a FU world.
Too dumb to be a cop.
How come African “hyphen” Americans have a monopoly on nooses?
“. . . the officer couldn’t come up with a reasonable explanation for the noose.”
Freedom of speech?
Inarguably stupid, but I don’t see a constitutional mandate against stupidity.
Cause you can’t get a nonopoly on mooses.
Maybe the “couldn’t come up with a reason” is the media twist.
Maybe he figured there’s no way he has to explain it in the first place.
Yup.
And to think I took a gun to school in the 7th grade on the bus for "Weapons and Armament" class...
Times sure have changed.
Yeah, me too. I had one hanging from my rear-view mirror as a teenager. I never thought of it as a racial thing.
This PC business is out of control.
Pretty soon, blacks will be offended if we smile at them.
During the first days of the first Gulf War, my Father-in-law drew up a fine likeness of Sadaam and hung it by a noose from a pole outside his business. An African American woman stormed into his business and ordered he remove it as it was insenstive to all blacks.
Ahem...shhhh!
We tied all the draw cords on the roll up window shades as nooses at my high school.
Back in 2005 Michael Rodrigue was Employee of the Year!

Now, he is with out a job.
Good news for him is that Jefferson Parish is hiring cops.
Or if we don't. (They'll get to decide after the fact.)
