More than half a century of emotional pain came to an end when Janice Carney opened her eyes on the morning of Feb. 25, 2001, in a Colorado hospital.
Carney, born John Joseph Carney, vividly remembers waking up on her 51st birthday, after eight hours of surgery, and seeing her best friend holding a birthday cake with a single candle on it.
"It was the beginning of my new life," Carney says.

I’m still sick & seeing that this am without enough coffee made me really wonder. I was thinking am I reading this right? A guy goes through all of this to be a female & it now is a lesbian? I do not understand why at that age you would through all of that . Well I don’t understand it at any age...To me its plain sickening. At least it isn’t another teacher.

Tar and Feathers.
I am confused by the story? He was a man and became a woman, but wants to be a lesbian?

I think what bothers me is the willingless of the media and others to play along and refer to HIM as her or she. As every cell in his body attests, he’s a he, not a she or even an it. When media puts on the blinkers and plays pretend, we are in trouble.
True with one caveat:
How do we classify those who have XY chromosomes but developed, naturally, as female? Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. Real disorder. Some believe Jamie Lee Curtis has it, but I don’t know if that’s true.
Or those who are truly born “intersexed?”
I volunteer to hold the door....CLOSED
