Um, maybe I’m out of line here, but isn’t there a Republican sitting in the president’s chair. And can’t he secure the border with the military anytime he wants.

And yet, he is leaving the borders wide open.

True enough. But the election will (probably) be between Sen. Clinton and the Republican nominee, not GWB: what this does is make it more likely that the 'pubby won't follow in Bush's footsteps on the matter.

Yep, and the Reps would be wise to run against that policy, which has been in place since RR granted amnesty in 1986. What we do know is that Hillary and the Dems are in favor of continuing that policy and granting amnesty to the 12 to 20 million illegals already here. The 2008 election is about the future, not the past.
