fred was very clear today..
He sees nothing wrong with allowing anti gun college presidents to disarm law abiding citizens with carry permits when even the state in which they abide allows that.
Pretty clear to me..
You would be surprised how many people turned against him today after that statement.
I don’t know about that. I work on a college campus and would be loathe to see citizens who are drunk all weekend and have the judgement of fleas to be carrying weapons.
If you live in a college area you would know exactly what I mean.
College campuses are places where the rules exist for a pretty good reason. Sure the same 18 year olds in the army can go around armed but they are subject to immense control of their behavior. Young college men are no comparison.
Anybody who turned against Thompson or any candidate based on that position has a narrow view of what is important now. And arming young people on campus is not important compared to what we face as a country.
I didn’t like that answer either. OTOH, thinking logically not emotionally, the POTUS is not empowered to control college campus security. I work on a college campus, BTW.
He was making the point that a college campus, like any organization or company, can enact policies as long as they don’t contradict law.
I was OK with his answer, but would have liked it better if he had mentioned that someone with a gun could have stopped the slaughter.
I guess that means he respects PRIVATE PROPERTY rights. If a school is a private school, it has every right to pass rules regarding guns on its property, as would any private business. Even if it is a State School, it can pass rules to bar guns, just as many PUBLIC buildings do right now.
I wouldn't have expected Fred to say anything differently. He is still very strong on individual gun ownership.
