OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The movement to draft Gore for President continues to gain momentum as Draft Gore is about to launch its first round of television advertising on Friday.
Funded entirely by contributions from grassroots supporters, the 30-second spot features clips from speeches in which Gore takes an early stand against the war in Iraq and exhorts Americans to take back their government and restore Constitutional authority. "I believe our success in defending ourselves depends precisely on not giving up what we stand for," Gore says in one of the clips.
The ad will run for five days on CNN news shows beginning Nov. 2 and for three days on New Hampshire's WMUR station. "Imagine a renewed world," the ad urges Americans. "Imagine an end to the war in Iraq. Imagine Al Gore as President." The ad concludes with an appeal to supporters to sign the petition at Draftgore.com.
Draft Gore's TV commercial follows on the heels of a full-page ad the group ran in the New York Times earlier this month. The ad, devised in the form of an open letter to Gore, received national and international attention just two days before the former vice president was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
"Al Gore still has time to jump into this race," said Draft Gore chair Monica Friedlander. "He maintains a massive base of support, as evidenced by recent polls and the unprecedented strength of this truly grassroots movement that's sweeping the country unlike anything we have seen in recent political history."
A CBS News poll released last week shows the undeclared Gore running a strong second at 32 percent among Democratic voters nationwide, only five points behind presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton. Moreover, Gore polls much better than Clinton against Republican frontrunner Rudy Giuliani, 52 percent to 46 percent, compared to Clinton's 49 to 47 percent, according to a poll released by CNN on Oct. 21.
Draft Gore's online petition has garnered nearly a quarter-million signatures over the past year, despite having received little publicity until recent weeks. The petition more than doubled in size since July. Draft Gore also ran a series of radio ads in targeted areas between June and October.
"Americans are calling Gore back to service at a time of grave national and international crises," Friedlander said. "Draft Gore is merely giving a voice to this demand."
And the best part? The Democrat Elitist Establishment played them like utter stooges...
This does not surprise me at all. Guess the draft Al Gore movement is on!
I just signed it Go Al Gore Go
I think we should give as much support to him as possible for the next six months. The media will be naive enough to think that a grassroots exist for the guy and he could win.
If Gore runs, all the polar bears and penguins are certain to vote for him. I understand they are already being registered in the big cities.
Of course, expecting any good to come from an Al Gore movemebt is a mistake, but still.
Hillary!! is already in the process of getting them driver’s licenses...
I signed up for Al to run..again. He can only help the country.......(he he)
Yup I just put my globe in the refrigarator
Isn’t Al Gore already the president of Venezuela?
Or is that just some fat guy who sounds like Al Gore.
Thanks for the pointer to the petiton. I gave it it’s own post in general/chat.
Cool. That’s hilarious - “Freep the Draft Gore movement.”
