She is not engaging in cheap shots. Just observations of a candidate. A candidate which will have to stand between Hill and the WH.
She is entitled to an opionion without your shaming her and trying to shut her down.
A little more principle.

I disagree with her about Fred, but I would never attack her. She is too dear and besides where would I go for food????

LOL! I know, that was such a stupid "question." But on the whole, I thought Russert was very gentle with Thompson, soft-ball pretty much all the way (though I was cooking breakfast so I missed some). I don't know what to make of it.
The other one that I, frankly, loved, was when the "torture" question came up. It cracked me up -- I got the idea that Thompson basically said, "Hell yeah, use what you have to to save American lives in war, just don't call it 'torture' -- I never used that word," something to that affect. And I thought, "Right ON, Fred!"
I think Thompson did very well in what he said -- he was consistent in his message that domestically, smaller government is better. I know there are many who think how a candidate says something is actually more important than what he's actually saying. I disagree.
The most youthful, handsome, clean-cut, family-sparkling chap on the planet can talk about stepping toward government-controlled health care in a way that sounds like music to the ears and eyes -- yep, he's expressing it beautifully, but what he's saying is destructive to American freedom and an individual's right to self-determination.
For my money, I believe abortion is BEST left in the states hands. It is not a federal issue.
We leave all sorts of things at the state level, including murder.
Fred Thompson has no cell in his body that is pro-life. A vote for Fred is against a culture of life. His opinions fly in the face of the GOP Platform or has that evolved with time since 2000?
For all I know, that could be the reason you oppose Fred`s candidacy. LOL
I STILL don’t know how he can be ANYWHERE NEAR x42 and not require some form of sterilization procedure to survive. YUCK

I don’t usually interject religion into this thread, but this morning the readings were about God wanting everyone He created to succeed to Eternal Life. This meant to me that I have to pray for the ‘conversion’ of the Clintons, just as I prayed for the conversion of Russia when I was a child.
Perhaps, this is the attitude that GHW Bush has toward Bill Clinton. Better to pray to change him, than to curse him.
FT better keep his acting gig.

Is murder a federal crime or one handled by state law?
If the latter, why is murder a matter for states, and abortion a matter for the Feds?
I thought that, too. I also had read on FR that the whole show was to be devoted to Thompson, though that information may have been in error. Russert's talk with Thompson ended early enought for us to jump channels to FNS's panel discussion, the last segment of the show. I wonder if MTP had more interview on tape that a [convenient] programming change bumped?

Get it straight,,I will vote for any republican who runs against Hillary. Defeating her is more important to me than any issue. I want a winner. And I don’t overestimate the intelligence of the voters,,they vote based on general impressions.
Any observation is followed by an attack and an accusation lately. Tiresome if you ask me.

I’m really sorry about the shots folks are taking at you over your opinion of FDT. I happen to support him but understand your opinion. I think you may reconsider if you see more of him and particularly if he gets a shot to debate against Hillary. I think he’ll mop up the floor with her. But the way the comments to you are being framed is really unfortunate.
I did initially laugh at your comment, though, because, to me, Fred reminds me a lot of Dick Cheney in style and appearance. And we all know how much you dislike the Vice President ;^>
Fine. But if I have to choose I’m not going to pick Fred.
Are you saying you'd be happy to have Hillary win if Fred were the nominee? If so I think that attitude is just nuts. It's what cost us the House and Senate last year and gave us Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid. Hundred percenters who feel that way, who want to "punish" Republicans for not being "pure" pose a real threat to put Hillary in office, just as a lot of the same folks put Bill in back in 92 and 96.

MR. THOMPSON: Coming from you, I consider that compliment, Tim, but no, no, it’s not health-related. I, you know, we had a diet around our house that was imposed a while back and, basically, you know, if it tastes real good, don’t eat it, you know. But I was encouraged by, by my wife and other people in the health field, you know, to, to watch my cholesterol, to watch my weight, to exercise more. I exercise on a regular basis, and I eat better than I ever have and....
MR. RUSSERT: But you were—you have been diagnosed with lymphoma.
MR. THOMPSON: Yes.
MR. RUSSERT: And you said the other day you were going to have some tests probably in October. Did you have your tests?
MR. THOMPSON: Yes. I had—I had tests in September, actually...
MR. RUSSERT: And?
MR. THOMPSON: ...as I recall.
MR. RUSSERT: The results?
MR. THOMPSON: Hundred--100 percent free and clear. Some people in the news media asked for that. I sent it to them. I didn’t make a public announcement, but I had all the tests. The doctor put out a statement I’m in good shape. And in all fairness, you know, I get a lot of conversation about this, and it’s totally legitimate. The American people have a right to know. I have a right to know, and so does my family. But, you know, I’m, I’m—there are a couple of other guys running for president, too, who’ve also had to deal...
MR. RUSSERT: John McCain, Rudy Giuliani...
MR. THOMPSON: Well, you know, I’m not looking...
MR. RUSSERT: Will you release—will you release all your health records?
MR. THOMPSON: I will release, you know, I—whatever the common practice is. I mean, I have to go back and, and, and look and see what other people have done and what’s appropriate. But, but, but this is the, the only situation, of course, that, that is in, in, in, you know, anything like cancer category in my, in my life and I’m the one who put it out. I put my doctor out there to answer all the questions, and I’ll continue, when appropriate, to, to answer any questions anybody’s got. It’s a fair, it’s, it’s a fair subject. I’m, I’m fortunate in that I, like my other colleagues on the campaign trail, I assume, I’ve got the kind that you can, you can deal with. There’s 30-something different kinds of lymphoma, and I’ve supposedly got one of the better kinds. And, you know, I fully expect to live long enough to pass away from something else. So, you know, nobody knows and, you know, the Lord has shown me that he doesn’t take people in sequence, necessarily, so you never know. But all I can do is put the facts out there, and, you know, I feel better physically than I ever have.
