As seen from the wider view, this is part of the bigger war. It is resembling WW I where things spread out of control until it was full-out war. Maybe our leaders can keep a lid on it a while longer.

This state of emergency is only meant to topple the top judges of supreme court of pakistan, specially cheif justice of pakistan justice iftikhar chaudry. The supreme court ruled against the goverment in one of the biggest corruptiuon cases of pakistan, arrests of innocent people by agencies etc.

“...it is clear from reading the emergency proclamation the main target is the judiciary which is accused of interfering in government policy...” -BBC News

Hope he quashes this stat-

hope he does more than his usual go in, lobs a few bombs, call a cease fire and give the Taliban more time to regroup/recoup to even larger extent.

Maybe ? heretofore, he's been holding back due to constraints on him - Maybe ? without constraints, He can go get the job done -

Maybe ? our (US) 'disapprove" is smoke screen.

Hopefully, we have plenty of air cover hovering at the colander-pourous border right there where the TAliban ooze at will into the Kunar Province, the hottest nest in the war right now - where our Sky Soldiers of the 173rd are hunkered down - remote/mountain cold/fire fights with Taliban 'most every day -- KEEP OUR TROOPS COVERED!

BREAKING NEWS — PAKISTANI JUDGES PANEL REJECT DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY STATE.

So, they were ok with him taking power in a coup but he can’t declare an emergency.

state of emergency is only meant to topple the top judges of supreme court

The text of the decree makes that very clear. The pretext, the surrender of 48 soldiers, combined with the move to "protect" Butto's home may indicate far more serious problems coming to a head.

Keep an idea on news out of the tribal areas....he may have given us a green light to take out a few targets.

I sure hope - either way - that we have some heavy duty air cover ready to go there in the Kunar Province on the Afghanistan side of the border - where binny boy considers home - and has spent more time in the past few years than in Pakistan...

remote, mountainous, getting bitter cold, and where our Sky Soldiers of the 173rd Airborne are - and where the AlQ pour down through the colander porous valleys in to the Pech and Koregal Valleys of the Kunar Province -

This is the kind of atmosphere where assassination attempts are not unexpected...

Ooookay. Business as usual, then.

Nothing unanticipated in his speech (his reference to Abe Lincoln was interesting). It is approaching 1 AM there so we will see what the morning brings.

Random observation: there are a huge number of English loan-words in modern Urdu.

And I was thinking during his English language segment, "he's gonna invoke old Abe" and sure enough he did.

I wouldn’t be surprised. They shouldn’t have nukes in the first place.

For sure, very revealing link to their history and their tie to some Western ideas rather than pure Islam.

LOL, ok true. Perhaps I should have said, “Assassination attempts are more likely today than usual.”

I noticed when he switched to the other language at the end (I’m guessing it was Pashtu?) there were many fewer English words.

Benazir speaking now and can’t make out a thing.
