Duane "Dog" Chapman's tape-recorded tirade has cost him his TV show.
"Dog the Bounty Hunter" has been pulled off the air by A&E, the cable network announced Friday. The network stopped short of saying the show was canceled, apparently leaving open the possibility of a return with new episodes or reruns.
"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take Dog The Bounty Hunter off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," A&E said in prepared statement. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Yum Brands, which advertised Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut on "Dog the Bounty Hunter," had pulled all of its ads, calling Chapman's comments "despicable."
Production of the Hawaii-based reality show was suspended earlier this week after it was reported that Chapman made repeated racial slurs in a tape-recorded phone conversation with his son, Tucker.
"Dog the Bounty Hunter" went on the air in 2004 and was one of A&E's highest rated shows, averaging 1.2 million viewers in primetime.
Chapman, who owns Da Kine Bail Bonds in downtown Honolulu, has apologized for repeatedly using a racial slur to refer to his son's girlfriend, who is African American.
The Associated Press reported on Friday that Tucker Chapman taped the phone call with his father, and sold it to the National Enquirer, which posted the tape on its Web site on Wednesday.
“What a rat. He lost his Father and his job.”
And his brothers and uncle who were riding the Dog gravy train.
That is the son “DOG” turned in for doing drugs. Tucker went to prison and it looks like he came out a bigger punk. I’m sure there was a fair amount of goading, of course with a handy recorder at hand to illegally record the rant the father was sure to get into.
I’m not defending Duane for his comments, just pointing out the “convenient” coincindences in this case.
If he had just released the tape, it would have been one thing, but to release it for a price. That is just ugly, perhaps more ugly than the words by his father.
“The father did it to himself. AND to his entire family.”
Did what, exactly? Had a presumably private conversation with his son? Who sets the litmus for what words can be used in private conversations? You?
This was a PRIVATE conversation. What the son did is despicable. I bet it won’t be long before that son is back in prison.
Sorry, but if my father had been that bigoted about my choice of girlfriend, I would have done the same.
She was there BEFORE the money and before big Dog called her the N word over and over.
What a rat. He lost his Father and his job.
What job? The Father Dog show's been shut down.
Reality bites, and reality bit Duane real bad.
“It’s cold out theah Mrs. Flectha, ahm tellin’ you.”
This subject is on Hannity and Colmbs right now.
There is a man of color (don’t know who it is) saying he should apologize to the girl he was talking about and to all people of color.
Re “That big dog wife was one scary woman.”
Just think of her as Hillary on steroids.
The replacement show will be known as “Hillary - The Presidential Man Bitch Show”.
Look, Dog took a lot of garbage off the streets, and tried to help some of them regain a decent life. Can’t say that about too many actors, can you?
Fortunately he recently came to his senses and moved her trashy butt out but will pay for it financially for years to come cause of his stupidity!
I agree. You can’t expect perfection from anyone; and I am sure a lot of people in the privacy of their homes or phones or whatever have said nasty things about others.
But for a son to do this to his father is not right.
Dang, such a wonderful family mom couldn’t keep her melons inside her tube tank, her big doggg husssbund couldn’t keep his hair out of his eyes and his son? well he’s got mo tatooees than pamala anderson
The father taped himself and sold the tape for cash??
I'm no fan of Chapman, or of racial epithets, even in private. But when you consider that this kid was leeching off his father, and living in his house, this makes what the kid did a form of parricide, and much more despicable than anything Chapman did.
This is payback, no doubt. Word has it that “Dog” was a lousy Dad.
Isn’t it against the law to record a phone conversation with the consent of the other party? So did Dog consent? If not, can the kid be prosecuted?
