LOS ANGELES - Bob Barker famously closed each episode of "The Price Is Right" with a pitch to spay and neuter pets. His successor is taking a stand on a more controversial subject: marijuana. Drew Carey won't tout toking up on "Price," but he defends the use of medical marijuana in a video posted online Thursday on Reason.tv.
"Smell that smell," the 49-year-old comedian says as he walks into a Los Angeles medical marijuana dispensary. "That's the smell of freedom."
The video is one of 20 Carey will host for the Reason Foundation, a nonprofit educational group whose ideas "some people call libertarian" and whose mission is to "advance freedom," said president David Nott.
Carey offered to produce brief documentaries on topics ranging from traffic congestion to immigration for the foundation's Web site, Nott said.
"Drew Carey connects with regular people. ... He has a regular guy's look at things, and that's why this seems like a great thing," he said. "We're interested in freedom across the spectrum, and good journalism about these subjects is important in the world of ideas."

Well, if we made it legal for one person to do that we'd have to make it legal for everyone, right?
Now, if a million people were growing a plant on their own property for personal use, wouldn't that have a substantial effect on commerce? Congress said it would. I suggest you take it up with them.
If the DEA is preventing Mexican gangs from smuggling marijuana across the border while making large busts, preventing BC Bud (28% THC) from entering the U.S. from Canada and protecting teenagers in America from using a gateway drug. I'm not a big fan of government but that sounds like the type of government I want.
Marijuana is causing in many ways the dumbing down of America. When people get high its not called getting stupid for nothing. Democrats & liberals love taking care of people that destroy themselves then become dependent.
Well, you can tell yourself there wouldn’t be any effect on interstate commerce, but we both know there would be — what the court called a “rational basis” conclusion.
To compare pot smoking to Jane Fonda is to compare everyone who drinks a glass of wine or champaigne or a cracks a beer, Al Capone.
Does that same argument apply to heroin and crack
*************
If by heroin, you mean morphine, it already does.
The Marijuana leaf was a 60’s and early 70’s hippie Icon. Not at all the same in the point I was making.
Marijuana played a role in the nineteen sixties counterculture revolution. The birth of radical liberalism in America.
If those dandelions were worth $3K each, a rational person would conclude that they'd make their way into interstate commerce.
Aha! The right answer! You get a prize, what do you want?
Young people with depression are harmed every day with prescription drugs. I don’t see where marijuana is more harmful than the harsh chemicals that have been approved, then disapproved... then replaced with other chemicals.
The harm I’ve seen with kids and marijuana is they fall in with an older crowd who have no real regard for health and productivity and respect.
Smoking is one thing,
but there are marijuanna based drugs that are
used primarily with Chemo, HIV and other immuno-suppressed patients.
Marinol has the wonderful benefit of not only dealing with nausea, but helping maintain and even improve appetite in at risk patients. I recommend it frequently.
Got cookies?
Not surprising. Carey is well known for his love of skunk and hookers
Come on wideawake you never say things like this. Drew is a great supporter of the troops...give the guy a break. I was shocked when I saw you wrote this.
LOL, I weep for the people you “counsel.”
When the issue is presented as it was by you, it seems so obvious, doesn’t it?
The guy loves marijuana and prostitutes. It's just a fact. That's his thing.
And he absolutely is a staunch supporter of the troops - more power to him.
How do you overcome the objections of those who say, because of their nausea, they can't keep the pill down?
I do. My wife had bc twice and ended up with a double mastectomy. I thought the chemo was going to kill her. That said, it's simply a joke the way the entire "establishment" of law enforcement (cops, judges, law-yers, doctors, etc) ALL look the other way or feign shock at users of pot, when all the while they THEMSELVES or someone they are very close to are doing it. It's really an issue of propaganda and the fact that people won't THINK.
Please, no lectures on it's evils and what it "leads to."
