I’m driving German now. The parts may be more expensive, but I don’t have to deal with GM crap anymore, Chinese or otherwise

From Business week. The domestic players also have competition from abroad as foreign automakers are starting to export cars from China through their joint ventures. Volkswagen plans to export its China-made vehicles to 84 countries by 2009 and Honda is already exporting to Europe from China.

What kind of car do you drive? BMW, Audi, Mercedes? I will show you how all 3 companies have many of their parts manufacturing plants in China and shipping the parts back to Germany.

Is your head going to explode knowing your precious German car has Chinese made parts on them?

“Many,” huh? Please do show us. I’m interested in ‘96 Audis in particular.

Your ‘96 Audo has very few OEM parts that were made in China because the relationship between Audi and china was not set up back then.
Betcha it has a bunch of aftermarket parts on it that were made in China though. Most people would buy the cheaper aftermarket Chinese made parts rather than OEM on a car that old.

Fair enough. I have stipulated that some of the products I purchase may have Chinese components. Please bear in mind that I am dealing with people who think I'm being forced to buy my garlic from China.

OK, sounds bad. Sounds about as sinister an image as your screen name evokes. Well, not quite.

In the mean time, Bruce Springsteen, a depreciating dollar makes American goods and services much more appealing based on price to foreign buyers.

The mental illness is called anti-communism

Explain how making Hu Jintao a billionaire through trade deals is anti-communist? And how changing trade rules so formerly US companies can move to China and become 50 % owned by the Chicom party? You "free traders" are about the most awful people on the face of the earth. At least the communists don't pretent they're something else.

True story (conversation approximated)--a couple winters ago, I went to Traffic Court to challenge a ticket and the assorted fees when my car was towed to car jail.

1rudeboy: "Your Honor, I'd like to see this case dismissed and a refund issued because the City can't decide what ordinance was violated, or even whether a violation actually occurred. Frankly, I see no good reason why I'm standing here."
judge [looking to other side]: "Mr. Smith?"
Smith [attorney for the City]: "Your Honor, defendant's car was towed because it was parked illegally."
judge: "Are you disputing the truth of the defendant's statement?"
Smith: "No, your Honor, I just need more time to look . . . ."
judge: "Dismissed. Send the check. Next."

Funny thing is, I suspect a large part of the reason I managed to skate on that one is because the cop was too "lazy" to get out of his patrol car. (You know how they pull-up alongside and place the ticket under your wiper through their own window?)

I place "lazy" in quotation marks because it was about -7F and the snow was blowing sideways.

Did he leave the space for the violation blank?

He actually checked the wrong box. But even if he had checked the proper one (meaning the one most likely to apply), then I was squarely in a (legal) gray-area.

Two weeks later, there was a fresh coat of yellow paint on the curb next to the spot where I had parked. Can't park there no mo'. :)

I remember people trying to get out of speeding tickets. The judge asked, “When was the last time you had your speedometer calibrated?” LOL!

Question...when our dollar is wothless...who will buy all the cheap Imported crap? that China, Korea, Tiawan, Pakiastan etc, sends over here? when the middle class is broke, who will buy all this stuff? what will happen to THEIR Economy? when America can’t afford the Cell Phones, Computers, Playstations, and Ipods that the Third world Makes...and their factorys come to a screaching halt.....
Will the American Companys that sent their factorys over there to save labor costs...fly the American Flag and say “Save Us! “Save American Jobs”!...I say Bring it on....
I think we need a good depression to wake comsumers up, and drive a stake into the hearts of Greedy American Corporations..let Microsoft sell to Natives in a Jungle somewhere...Let some Guy in a Tent in the Blazing desert buy Their laptops....
