Ex-Saudi ambassador: Kingdom could have helped U.S. prevent 9/11 [SA was tracking hijackers?]

(CNN) -- Saudi Arabia could have helped the United States prevent al Qaeda's 2001 attacks on New York and Washington if American officials had consulted Saudi authorities in a "credible" way, the kingdom's former ambassador said in a documentary aired Thursday.

Prince Bandar said that Saudi intelligence was "actively following" most of the 9/11 plotters "with precision."

The comments by Prince Bandar bin Sultan are similar to the remarks this week by Saudi King Abdullah that suggested Britain could have prevented the July 2005 train bombings in London if it had heeded warnings from Riyadh.

Speaking to the Arabic satellite network Al-Arabiya on Thursday, Bandar -- now Abdullah's national security adviser -- said Saudi intelligence was "actively following" most of the September 11, 2001, plotters "with precision."

"If U.S. security authorities had engaged their Saudi counterparts in a serious and credible manner, in my opinion, we would have avoided what happened," he said.

This is pure BS. Prince Bandar’s wife passed checks to the 9/11 hijackers.

In other words, "We knew, but we didn't say anything because you didn't ask", or "you didn't ask right."

Thanks a lot A$$hole.

So is he saying that because U.S. intelligence officials didn’t speak the right nice words to Saudi Arabia, that SA let the conspiracy come to fruition? If so, SA should be sued for damages from 9-11 and the WOT after. That should help stop the flow of funds to all those Wahhabists and their madrassas.

Its almost like he softly admitted that the Saudi Govt knew about the attacks beforehand, and didnt tell the US.

Why don’t the 9/11 truthers boycott Saudi Arabia???

This is the only thing I agree on Ron Paul with. Do more isolationist/protectionist policies, and let the Arabs go play with themselves.

Sounds to me like the former ambassador is arrogantly trying to rub our noses in it. As for the truthers, they're already boycotting their own common senses.

Let him gloat. In the end when we wean ourselves from the sludge , he and the rest of the goat fuchhers can eat sand. I hope i live to see it. As the need for oil shrinks , they will kill their young. The funny thing is , after all the smoke , dread , lost lives and money they will be where they are comfortable . In the sixth century . This has to be the biggest overreach in recorded history.

“A knowledgeable U.S. official told CNN that Bandar’s comments should be taken “with a grain of salt.””

Wondering who that “knowledgeable U.S. official” is, and also wondering the full context of the statement by Bandar. It is CNN after all.

The Saudi’s regardless are not to be trusted for anything. The idea commonly professed that the Saudi’s are our ally just isn’t so. They are their only ally.

I don’t believe it for a minute. For Domestic Consumption they are saying “we could have helped those Americans because we knew everything but they treated us with indifference and neglect and so they didn’t get the information they needed.”

I always enjoy hearing one of these king’s or dictator’s people speak - it reminds me that as bad as our politicians are, it could be a whole lot worse.

Bandar is typical Saudi weaselly hypocrite...his wife was complicit in the plot by passing checks to the hijackers. The Saudis are our enemies, and the sooner that the U.S. government wakes up to this fact, the better off we will be...
